LABYRINTH Magic Dances Back to Theaters for 40th Anniversary Kyle Anderson | usagoldmines.com

For a very particular generation of Millennials (and some Gen X and Z-ers probably), Jim Henson was the very definition of imagination. From Muppet Babies to Fraggle Rock, and of course Sesame Street before it, gave us worlds and characters and songs we cherish to this day. For an even more particular subset of that generation of Henson Kids, the creator’s high-fantasy, fairy tale worlds are even more beloved. One such film is 1986’s Labyrinth. Depicting a young girl (played by teen Jennifer Connelly) who travels into the Goblin Kingdom to rescue “the babe,” aka her baby brother, Labyrinth remains the pinnacle of Henson’s work. And soon you’ll be able to see it again on the big screen for the movie’s 40th anniversary.

Fathom Entertainment are back for another classic movie takeover, partnering with The Jim Henson Company to bring Jim Henson’s 1986 music-filled fantasy adventure Labyrinth, from Sony Pictures and starring David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly, back to theatres and remastered in 4K for its 40th anniversary on January 8-11.

Labyrinth: 40th Anniversary (which you can also get on 4K Steelbook) includes a special featurette celebrating the fans of Labyrinth, filmed on location at the UK’s recent “Labyrinth Experience & Masked Ball,” presented by Thames Con in association with The Jim Henson Company.

Labyrinth not only features dozens of inventive creatures and conceptual design by Brian Froud, it also introduced a whole generation of people to David Bowie, who plays the mystical, menacing Jareth, the Goblin King. I always just thought that was what David Bowie looked like until much later in life. But one thing’s for sure, “Magic Dance” is a banger.

Labyrinth also has something in common with this website. That commonality is an erroneous “the.” Lots of people refer to the movie as “The Labyrinth” even though it’s just Labyrinth, just as people call us The Nerdist, even though we’ve just been plain old Nerdist since, like 2012.

Anyway, article-free Labyrinth will hit cinemas nationwide from Fathom Entertainment in January. For more info, go to the Fathom website.
