The third Knives Out movie, Wake Up Dead Man, is currently out in theaters and will soon drop on Netflix, this December 12. While promoting the film on social media, director Rian Johnson said he’d turned down a Muppets version of Knives Out, which many fans wished he’d never said. Doesn’t Johnson realize everything gets improved with Muppets?? Well, we now have the next best thing. Netflix, which recently saved the Sesame Street series, has cooked up a Sesame Street x Knives Out parody, a five-minute Benoit Blanc case. Only this puppet version stars Inspector Beignet Blanc. Once again voiced by Daniel Craig, he’s here to solve the mystery of “Who Ate Cookie Monster’s Pie??” You can watch the full delightful video down below:
This new Knives Out x Sesame Street collaboration, titled “Forks Out,” comes straight from the folks at the Sesame Workshop. In this tantalizing new mystery, we discover that an unknown suspect has devoured Cookie Monster’s triple-berry pie. Who would dare steal such a sweet treat from our beloved Cookie Monster? Especially with the way he always freaks out. Is it the likely culprit, Oscar the Grouch? Maybe Elmo or Zoe? That’s when they call in the greatest puppet detective of all time, Beignet Blanc. Well, he might be the second greatest, we’re still partial to when vampire TV detective Angel became a puppet. But we digress.
Mystery novel fans will notice there are some references to a few classics in this short, such as The Murder on the Orient Express, and Curtain: Poirot’s Last Case. Will we get more Forks Out mysteries in the future? Who can say? We may never get a true Muppets x Knives Out crossover, simply because Disney owns the Muppets and may not want to share their IP with a rival like Netflix. Well, at least we here at Nerdist gave the world a Muppets/Knives Out crossover of a sort with The Rainbow Connection, which you can view above. But hey, Sesame Street is Muppety enough for us. This will just have to tide us over until then.
