We love James Gunn, don’t we folks? He’s probably the most fan-responsive creator in film or TV working today. Sometimes that’s not the best thing (when we have theories and shit). But for the most part, it’s entertaining, often enlightening. For fans of DC Comics, it’s also really lovely to have someone in charge of the movies whom we know at least looks at what people are saying. In fact, Gunn recently explained exactly what fans are hoping for when the DCU officially brings us Batman. He also explained what fans most care about is pretty low on his own list.
As we saw on CBR, Gunn responded to a fan who asked about DCU Batman having white eyes (rather than the actor’s human eyes) and whether they could be animated like Deadpool’s. The fan alluded to this being surely the DC Studio head’s number-one fan request. Not so, says Gunn. It’s third.
According to Gunn, the order of operations for Bat requests is: Blue and grey suit, yellow around the bat symbol on the chest, and then the white eyes. I for one would put the white eyes above the yellow around the bat symbol, but I’m a bit of a rebel that way. In either case, Gunn quickly explained that he doesn’t really care that much about those things. At least not to the degree fans do.
He said: “But all of those things I find less important than the character himself, the writing, and the person who plays him.” BO-RING. Just kidding, obviously finding the right Batman is of the utmost import. As many Batman movies have not quite done, getting the character right in the writing is very hard to pull off. But come on, who doesn’t want to see live action grey and blue Batman with white eyes?!
