Spongebob Squarepants is venturing where no sponge has gone before in the new trailer for The SpongeBob Movie: Search For Squarepants. Welcoming us back to Bikini Bottom, the trailer sees the obnoxiously lovable yellow sponge and his best friend Patrick Star set sail on a ridiculously hilarious seafaring adventure. It also features Ice Spice, who makes her voice acting debut.
Presented by Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Movie, Search For Squarepant is a swashbuckling, deep-sea escapade full of goofy, laughable moments. Determined to prove his bravery to Mr. Krabs, Spongebob sets out to find the mysterious ghost pirate known as The Flying Dutchman, voiced by none other than Mark Hamill. We see the iconic sponge climb aboard to follow the “pants-wettingly scary” ghost to the Underworld. Meanwhile, Mr. Krab, Squidward, and Gary journey somewhere arguably far more terrifying—high school.
Of course, we can’t forget the cameo of a certain ginger-haired artist. Joining the cast is rapper Isis “Ice Spice” Gaston, who briefly appears with her signature head of curls. Seeing Ice Spice reincarnated as a talking fish may not have been on our bingo cards this year, but it is exactly the type of shenanigans we would expect from a Spongebob movie. Accompanying the trailer is Ice Spice’s new single “Big Guy,” which transitions into a dramatic rendition of Ozzy Osbourne’s “Crazy Train.”
Joining the cast are returning voices Tom Kenny as Spongebob, Bill Fagerbakke as Patrick Star, Clancy Brown as Mr. Krabs, Rodger Bumpass as Squidward, Carolyn Lawrence as Sandy Cheeks. It also adds a few new voices, such as George Lopez, Arturo Castro, Sherry Cola, and Regina Hall.
Derek Drymon is set to direct the outrageous comedy-adventure, which marks the fourth Spongebob movie in the series. The previous one, Sponge on the Run, hit theaters in 2021. The SpongeBob Movie: Search For Squarepants splashes into theaters on December 19, 2025.
