macOS Sequoia offers many new and useful features, but Windows 11 users may experience a sense of déjà vu. Here are five standout macOS Sequoia features already available on Windows 11.
1 Phone Mirroring
One of the standout features of macOS Sequoia is phone mirroring, which allows users to launch and control their iPhones remotely from their MacBooks.
Setting up iPhone mirroring is easy; you only need an iOS 18 compatible iPhone and a T2 security chip-enabled Mac. Once you’ve done this, you can interact with apps and notifications without picking up your phone, as long as both devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
Windows 11 provides a similar feature through its built-in Phone Link app. However, it is currently limited to Samsung Galaxy devices. By pairing your Samsung Galaxy device, you can mirror your phone to access apps and games, manage notifications, and even make calls.
However, unlike macOS Sequoia, which can mirror an iPhone even when locked, Phone Link requires the device to be unlocked, giving macOS a small edge in usability.
2 Window Tiling with Snap Layouts
macOS Sequoia offers improved window tiling, making it easier to position open app windows around your screen. Users can easily drag and drop apps to the sides or corners of their display to split the screen.
Nevertheless, Windows 11’s Snap Layouts remains a superior option. In addition to using shortcuts like Win + Right/Left arrow to automatically arrange open windows, you can also drag a window to the top of the screen to select from various layouts.
Split screen options include side-by-side views for two apps, a four-window grid, and other layouts depending on your screen size.
3 Apple Intelligence Like AI Integration With Microsoft Copilot
macOS Sequoia brings the much-touted Apple Intelligence to compatible MacBooks, though it is still in its early stages.
Once ready, Apple’s artificial intelligence system will be capable of summarizing messages, creating images, assisting with rewriting passages for clarity and prioritizing notifications and emails.
However, much of what Apple Intelligence offers is already available on Windows 11. Microsoft’s AI assistant, Copilot, utilizes OpenAI to summarize text, perform quick calculations, generate images, answer questions, brainstorm ideas, and search the web.
Microsoft has integrated AI features into several of its classic applications, including Photos, which includes AI-enabled background removal and an eraser tool.
You can also use CoCreator in Microsoft Paint to create artwork with the help of AI. Copilot also works with popular Microsoft 365 apps like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
4 Reminder Integration in the Calendar App
The Calendar app in macOS Sequoia now integrates with the Reminders app, allowing you to view events and tasks in one place. Moreover, the updated Month View lets you view all your appointments at a glance.
In Windows 11, Outlook offers a similar experience by automatically creating reminders for new calendar appointments to help you keep track of tasks and events. Windows displays a notification in the notification panel when your task is due.
5 Solve Math Equations and Transcribe Audio in OneNote
The Notes app in macOS Sequoia can now solve math equations. Start typing an equation and enter the equal sign to see the answer. Additionally, the Notes app can transcribe audio by recording it in real-time, allowing you to focus on lectures while your computer takes notes for you.
Similarly, Microsoft’s OneNote app in Windows 11 offers these handy features. By typing an equation followed by an equal sign, the app automatically calculates and displays the answer. It also supports audio transcription. You can either record a live lecture or upload an existing audio file to convert it to text directly within the app.
While many of the features available in the latest macOS release are also present in Windows 11, there are still some exciting features exclusive to macOS Sequoia. These include a dedicated password manager, natural language search in photos, and the ability to schedule text messages, giving macOS unique advantages over Windows 11.
