7 Indie Games You Should Be Playing Right Now Camila Buck | usagoldmines.com

Right now, there are plenty of TV shows and movies to watch as well as no shortage of games to play.

Indie games have been all the rage in the last few years. I’ll never get tired of what I like to call the “Indie Magic” of it all. Without relying on half the marketing and budgeting that triple-A games have readily available, some indie games manage to astonish and impress without all the pzazz of the bigger titles. This allows gamers to focus on what they’re truly there for: the game.

It’s not about which studio made it, who’s voicing whom, nor who scored the soundtrack, but instead the core of the game. The beauty of indie games really lies in how there are no limits to what indie developers can create. Their imaginations and creative juices flow wildly, bringing worlds we’ve yet to see and refreshing characters to life with just a smidge of the budget of the Big Guys.

The devs’ passion and dedication for their projects are felt immensely in each title, and there are countless incredible indie games out there to enjoy. But there are a few specific games I’d like to bring to your attention. Each of them are entertaining as you’d expect a major title to and thus deserve some recognition and playtime.

Here are 7 indie games that you’re probably sleeping on:

Hell Clock (2025)

Rogue Snail

Brazilian studio Rogue Snail absolutely nailed it with this title. Much like other Roguelikes and ARPGs, time is not your friend in Hell Clock. This very original game is based on one of the bloodiest civil conflicts in Brazilian history, the War of Canudos, while adding supernatural elements like the undead for an entertaining twist.

Hell Clock offers two different game modes for its variety of players. One mode allows the game to be experienced as it was meant to be: fast-paced, unforgiving, chaotic, challenging. The other game mode allows the gamer to take their time with the levels by not running a clock, which lets players finish the level they’re on without the constant fear of time running out and having to start all over again.

Hell Clock is currently available on Steam.

BOKURA: planet (2025)

Tokoronyori

BOKURA: planet by Tokoronyori is the kind of game that truly disguises itself with a cute interface but suckerpunches the gamers with high levels of emotional damage. Notice I said gamers, plural. BOKURA: planet is a co-op only game, meaning you absolutely cannot play it alone. The game relies on two players solving puzzles together, only by means of verbal communication, in order for its very interesting couple of characters to continue to explore this bizarre planet they find themselves on.

Expect a lot of gut punches and pensive moments with this one, I won’t say more because I refuse to spoil it for you.

BOKURA: planet is available on Steam.

My Little Universe (2025)

Estoty

If you’re looking for a family-friendly game that everyone of any age can enjoy, look no further. My Little Universe by Estoty is the type of game one can lose themselves in for hours at a time, easily. Players work together to craft entire planets and evolve through technological ages as you upgrade your tools and weapons. You can mine for ore, slash for wood, sail across the sea to different islands, unlock cool costumes and outfits, fight baddies and monsters, and solve fun puzzles that will have you hopping from planet to planet without realizing how long you’ve been at it.

My Little Universe is available on Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and mobile devices.

Sensei! I Like You So Much (2025)

LaoO Studios

Ready to get your write on?

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to be a professional fan fiction writer, LaoO Studios’ Sensei! I Like You So Much will take you by the hand and guide you through it all. This really fun and unique fan fiction writer simulator puts players in the shoes of Mila, a writer obsessed with her little fandom. She begins to write fan fiction and gather followers and fans as they gain momentum. The game takes you through every aspect of the hobby (profession?) with hilarious writing prompts and sessions.

Sensei! I Like You So Much is available on Steam.

Spirit City: Lo-fi Sessions (2023)

Mooncube Games

This is the kind of game to turn on and leave it playing all day. Mooncube Games’ Spirit City: Lo-fi Sessions is the mother of all cozy games.

With a collection of lo-fi music that makes my Spotify playlist cry out of jealousy, Spirit City allows players to get organized and cozy. Pomodoro timers, journals, to-do lists, habit tracker – this game has everything you need to stay productive and on top of things throughout your day while jamming to some sweet tracks.

You can customize your entire apartment and character, and find different combinations of activities and sounds to spawn little spirits, which you then add to your collection. I can’t tell you how many hours I have on this game from leaving it on and doing my thing, but I can tell you how much it’s helped me feel like I actually did something productive with my time.

Spirit City: Lo-fi Sessions is available on Steam.

Storyteller (2023)

Annapurna Interactive

Who doesn’t love a good fairy tale?

Annapurna Interactive’s Storyteller lets the player become the master of stories by having them make story panels that tell the tale described on each individual story title. Classic “evil queen kills pretty princess out of jealousy” and all, the player has to choose the correct characters and backdrops to make the right scenes and unlock the entire story.

Some stories have multiple endings, adding to the fun and making the player think outside the box. My favorite thing about it is how the game interacts with the player when a panel or character is used incorrectly. This game also does not give you hints in the slightest about what goes where with whom. It’s just you and your puzzle-solving skills on this one.

Storyteller is available on the Nintendo Switch, PC, iOS, and Android.

Everdeep Aurora (2025)

Nautilus Games

Imagine a memory game and a puzzle-solving game had a baby. Nautilus Games’ Everdeep Aurora is very much a successful (though sometimes frustrating) combination of both game types with cute pixel graphics and a pretty good story. You play as a cat in search of her mother during a meteor shower. And you must find refuge in the Underground while solving puzzles, drilling, exploring, and doing side quests to help NPCs while you make your way to her.

Nostalgia knocks hard when it comes to the pixelated graphics and overall atmosphere of the game. The cuteness rivals games like Undertale but with a longer gameplay time, and it also has multiple endings for the player to discover.

Everdeep Aurora is available on the Nintendo Switch and PC.
