It’s almost time to get back to one of the most bizarre post-apocalyptic wastelands in pop culture. Almost two years ago, Anthony Mackie hopped in a sweet ride named Evelyn and brought Twisted Metal’s game protagonist John Doe to live-action life. The season ended with him discovering that he’d be driving in a death tournament because Raven said so and now we are getting closer to see it all go down. Twisted Metal season two dropped a teaser trailer and revealed that it will hit streaming in Summer 2025.
In the first season of the Peacock series, John’s mission to retrieve a package from New Chicago and bring it to Raven, a leader at New San Francisco, in exchange for the sweet life in her community was a wild ride. It brought everyone from the chaotic Quiet to Sweet Tooth the killer clown into his path. There were some explosive deaths, sex in a plastic ball pit, and some surprisingly emotional beats all wrapped up in one season.
The Twisted Metal season two teaser hilariously sums this up before showing what we can expect. We see Anthony Carrigan’s Calypso, who is the leader of the Twisted Metal Tournament, as well as some truly scary competitors. We know that John can handle a whip, but he’s gonna really have to be that guy to survive.
Here’s a plot synopsis for Twisted Metal’s second season:
Following the revelations in the season one finale, John and Quiet find themselves entering the deadly TWISTED METAL tournament, a sinister demolition derby hosted by a mysterious man known as Calypso. As they try to survive an onslaught of dangerous new foes and familiar faces alike, including the murderous clown Sweet Tooth, things get complicated for John when he reunites with his long-lost sister, the vigilante Dollface.
Showrunner, writer, and EP Michael Jonathan Smith also has a quick word to say about what’s going down in this next installment.
The stakes couldn’t be higher as John Doe (Anthony Mackie) and Quiet (Stephanie Beatriz) risk their lives to compete in a dangerous demolition derby tournament. The prize? A single wish, their greatest hearts desire, granted. The only problem is sixteen other drivers have wishes of their own. Anthony Mackie and Stephanie Beatriz lead a stellar cast, including Will Arnett & Joe Seanoa (aka Samoa Joe) as fan favorite Sweet Tooth, and Anthony Carrigan as the iconic tournament host Calypso, in a fast-paced, hysterical, thrilling season with unforgettable characters. It’s too bad not all of them will survive.
