It’s not a trick, but it’s definitely a treat: this October, the Halloween cult classic Trick ‘r Treat will come to theaters for the first time in glorious 4K. Warner Bros. Pictures, Legendary Entertainment, Saga Arts, and Fathom Entertainment are partnering to bring the beloved spooky season film to cinemas on October 14 and 16 with an all-new 4K remaster. This big screen debut deserves a big celebration, which is why Nerdist is teaming with Spirit Halloween and Trick ‘r Treat writer-director Michael Dougherty to throw one heck of a party. Whether you’ve got a screen-accurate Sam up your sleeve, or you want to be the bus from “The Halloween Schoolbus Massacre,” we want to see your killer costumes. By “we” we mean the Nerdist editorial staff and Michael Dougherty himself. Yes, the man behind Sam is helping us pick the winners for The Spirit of Sam Costume Contest.
Speaking of winning, here’s what you can take home if we name your Trick ‘r Treat costume one of the best in our contest:

[Sam] represents everything that Halloween really is about. He’s cute, but he’s creepy, funny, and scary. Those are all key parts of Halloween. You know, Halloween’s not just terrifying. Otherwise I don’t think we’d be dressing up our kids and throwing them out and into the night unsupervised. There’s an element of danger. There’s an element of fear. But that’s balanced out by mischief and laughter. You’re screaming but you’re having a great time. I think its because Sam represents a perfect balance of those elements. He’s adorable but he might cut your throat when he gives you a hug. I’d like to think that’s part of it. He represents sort of the dual nature of Halloween itself.
The Spirit of Sam Costume Contest starts today, September 19, and runs until October 5.
