The stories of Roald Dahl are filled with terrible adults, and the author’s two worst grownups got their very own novel. Now they’re getting their very own movie from Netflix. The first trailer for The Twits begins the disgusting couple’s big screen adventure. But don’t worry, in true Dahl fashion, there are plenty of youngsters to stand up to them.
Dahl’s 1980 children’s novel is getting the silver screen treatment from Netflix. It’s adapting his tale of a truly awful couple who get its jollies from torturing both each other and others. But as this promo shows, there’s a lot more going on here than just some bad behavior. Here’s the official synopsis to go with The Twits trailer:
Academy Award-nominated filmmaker, Phil Johnston, reimagines Roald Dahl’s iconic characters, Jim and Credenza Twit, in their first feature animated adventure. The Twits tells the story of Mr. and Mrs. Twit, the meanest, smelliest, nastiest people in the world who also happen to own and operate the most disgusting, most dangerous, most idiotic amusement park in the world, Twitlandia. But when the Twits rise to power in their town, two brave children and a family of magical Muggle-Wumps, are forced to become as tricky as the Twits in order to save the city.
Director Phil Johnston (Wreck-it-Ralph) co-wrote the script with Meg Favreau. It also comes from co-directors Katie Shanahan and Todd Demong. Jellyfish Pictures (The Boss Baby, The Bad Guy) handled the animation. It also includes new music from the legendary David Byrne and featuring Hayley Williams.
The movie also boasts a stacked cast. It stars Margo Martindale, Johnny Vegas. Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Ryan Lopez, Emilia Clarke, Natalie Portman, Timothy Simons, Nicole Byer, Jason Mantzoukas, Alan Tudyk, Mark Proksch, Rebecca Wisocky, and Charlie Berens.
This trailer really does capture just how strange this movie really is. In a statement Johnston said, “On behalf of the massive gaggle of weirdos who made this movie, we can’t wait for the world to meet our strange, ugly baby.”
What Is the Release Date of The Twits on Netflix?
Hopefully that awful couple doesn’t get its hands on any babies when The Twits comes to Netflix on October 17. 2025.
