At New York Comic Con, Nerdist was especially excited to cover all things The Vampire Lestat, otherwise known as Interview with the Vampire season three. Interview with the Vampire has already delivered an exceptional two seasons, which, among other things, have been tremendously queer in all the best ways. While the relationship between Louis and Lestat is the heart of the show, fans of the franchise and Anne Rice’s books know there’s another epic vampiric romance waiting in the wings. And it just so happens that at Nerdist, we are huge supporters of what’s known as Devil’s Minion or the relationship between the vampire Armand and Daniel Molloy. At a press conference that preceded The Vampire Lestat’s NYCC panel, we got to chat with Eric Bogosian and hear how he describes the love between Armand and Daniel in The Vampire Lestat. (Bogosian offered us an even more in-depth version than fans were treated to later at the panel and live stream.) Here’s what Eric Bogosian had to say to us about Devil’s Minion in Interview with the Vampire season three.

When asked about the relationship between Armand and Daniel in The Vampire Lestat, Bogosian replied, “I feel that Armand’s love for Daniel is like when a kid has a stuffed animal and he drags it around with him for like years until it has one button, and a hole for an eye. And he loves that little stuffed animal. So, it’s as romantic as that can be.”
And well, if you ask us, that’s pretty romantic. It’s love at any rate, it seems. For the curious, the question we asked Bogosian did not explicitly ask if Armand was in love with Daniel Molloy in The Vampire Lestat; instead, it wondered whether Daniel’s turning in Interview with the Vampire season three would resemble the way he became a vampire in the books in any way.
To offer a bit more context, at the end of Interview with the Vampire season two, Armand turns Daniel into a vampire, the first he’d ever made in his over 500 years of existence. Armand’s siring of Daniel is an event that also happens in Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles, in a specific chapter of the book Queen of the Damned titled “The Story of Daniel, the Devil’s Minion, or the Boy from Interview with the Vampire.” (Hence the colloqualism, Devil’s Minion.) However, Armand’s making of Daniel into the vampire Daniel happens under much different circumstances in the Interview with the Vampire books than in the series.
Notably, of course, Daniel is much younger and literally on death’s door. But to us, what is most striking about the Devil’s Minion chapter of Queen of the Damned is just how incredibly romantic Daniel’s turning is in it. Although in reality, Daniel is dying, Armand orchestrates an elaborate Bachelor-date-of-a-setting for his vampiric transformation in Daniel’s mind. Rice literally filled the text with blooming flowers, gorgeous stars, and ancient ruins. Even this writer, a self-proclaimed Armand apologist, felt struck by the care and intimacy of the moment.
(And I quote, “Their [Armand and Daniel’s voices carried over the garden. Such roses and chrysanthemums, how enormous they were. And light poured from the doorways of the Villa of the Mysteries. Was there music playing? Why, the whole ruined place was brilliantly illuminated under the incandescent blue of the night sky.”)
But, alas, for now, it doesn’t look like there are any flowers in Armand and Daniel’s future on The Vampire Lestat—but never say never. When I followed up Bogoisan’s initial response with, “So no flowers in Interview with the Vampire season three, then?” He responded with a laugh, “No flowers. … Yet.” Well, we’ll take it. Personally, we feel the stars, roses, and music version of Daniel’s vampiric turning is too good to never put on screen.
Ultimately, Eric Bogosian liked the description of Armand and Daniel’s relationship in The Vampire Lestat that he shared with us so much that he pulled it out again for the full panel. There, he noted of Armand and Daniel’s Interview with the Vampire season three interactions, “You know when a little kid has a stuffed animal when they’re very small and they just drag it around for like years and years, and it has one eye and it’s all torn up. That’s his approach to Daniel.”
At the panel, Assad Zaman, who plays Armand, was also present, and jumped in to add the following about Armand and Daniel in The Vampire Lestat. “It’s tattered, it’s broken, but it’s MINE.” CUE THE APPLAUSE.
The panel version of Bogosian’s response was also very good. However, we feel that the use of “love” multiple times in what we heard from him is sure to make Armand/Daniel shippers very happy. We didn’t get to ask Zaman about Daniel’s turning yet and his vision of Armand in the show versus the books, but we sure are excited to hear what he thinks, hopefully sooner rather than later. In the meantime, we’ll be rewatching Interview with the Vampire seasons one and two on AMC+ and Netflix. Interview with the Vampire season 3 or The Vampire Lestat will release sometime in 2026.
Until next time, our fine Devil’s Minion friends.
