For a movie that’s forty years old with no sequel in 35 years (and another one is probably not happening), Back to the Future continues to resonate with modern audiences. It’s a film with a ton of iconic visual elements, but none more so than Doc Brown’s DeLorean time machine. Although there have been LEGO sets of this iconic movie vehicle before, they were expensive deluxe versions. These were aimed at collectors only. Now, via IGN, we’ve learned that a smaller (but no less cool) and more affordable version is on the way early next year as part of the Speed Champions line. You can build this Back to the Future LEGO time machine set in a standard car form, with a lightning rod, and the iconic “OUTATIME” California license plate from the first movie. One can also rebuild it in its flying vehicle mode from Back to the Future II. It includes the Mr. Fusion power source, an orange license plate, and sideways wheels. Both modes feature the flux capacitor and the time calculator. Of course, this Back to the Future set comes with minifigures of Doc Brown and Marty McFly. It would simply be incomplete without them.
The previous DeLorean Time Machine LEGO set consisted of over 2,000 pieces and cost around $200.00. Ever since, fans have hoped for a more affordable version, and LEGO has finally delivered. Aside from not being able to go 88 mph and traveling back to 1950s Hill Valley, this one’s got it all.
