Anne Rice’s Immortal Universe is welcoming its newest chapter, Anne Rice’s Talamasca: The Secret Order, to the fold. And that means a whole new tangle of delicious relationships between the supernatural denizens of the world and the humans that surround them. Anne Rice/Interview with the Vampire fans will recall that the Talamasca is an organization that exists to essentially spy on vampires, witches, and more—building a knowledge base about these Immortals as they observe and record them throughout the centuries. While the Talamasca aren’t meant to interfere directly with their supernatural marks…well, we know how that goes. A vampire doesn’t often like to be watched without biting back, so to speak. In our exclusive clip from Anne Rice’s Talamasca: The Secret Order, we get to meet our new favorite vampire, Jasper, played by William Fichtner, as he cackles, smirks, and snarks his way through causing the Talamasca A LOT of trouble.
If you think Interview with the Vampire‘s Armand is slippery and Lestat is a diva, wait till you meet Fichtner’s Jasper. He’s got the swagger, the sharp tongue, and the slightly haunted expression around the edges of his eyes. We love him on sight. We’re also something of vampire apologists, here at Nerdist, so we can kind of understand the temptation to turn the tables around on an organization that’s essentially stalking your every move. Not that vampires aren’t always getting up to no good… But we support vampire rights to wrongs.
In any case, Jasper is giving the Talamasca quite a headache in our exclusive clip from Anne Rice’s Talamasca: The Secret Order. He’s taken over the London Motherhouse (what the Talamasca call their headquarters), and no amount of Checkers’ rantings can unseat him now. It’s going to take more than that. Indeed, Jasper is now the captain of this ship. But can he keep his command?
We guess we’ll have to see what Guy Anatole (Nicholas Denton), a young man with psychic powers and a mysterious past, and Helen (Elizabeth McGovern), who recruits him into Talamasca, have to say about it. With the Talamasca at the center of this Immortal Universe show and Jasper already causing them trouble, it feels like the vampire is gearing up to be the antagonist of our Talamasca tale. But, as always in the Immortal Universe, not everything is so black and white. And we feel like Jasper may yet win hearts and minds of fans and fellow characters alike.
Although they don’t interact in our Talamasca: The Secret Order exclusive clip, we can’t wait to see Guy and Jasper meet face to face. And then we suppose we can learn who the real captain of this ship is. Co-captains, anyone? We’re pulling for it. (That’s a little fandom humor for all of you.) Will Guy stand strong with the Talamasca, or will he let Jasper whisper in his ear? We’ll have to watch and see.
