Although Critical Role Campaign 4 is only just picking up steam, it’s already brought us our fair share of intense battles and epic emotional moments. In fact, the whole of Critical Role Campaign 4 is based around one very important death, which literally unites the rest of the party for the whole story. And if that isn’t foreshadowing for what’s to come, we don’t know what could be. But Thajazi Fang’s first death is merely the beginning. New Game Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has already warned us that Campaign 4‘s land of AramĂ¡n is not a balanced one; there is no justice, things aren’t fair. And that means sudden deaths come quick and hit hard. To help you keep track of the bloodshed and loss, here are all the deaths that have come for us so far in Critical Role Campaign 4.

Thajazi Fang’s Death Kickstarts the Whole Critical Role Campaign 4 Death

As we mentioned, the death of NPC Thajazi Fang is the very crux of Critical Role Campaign 4‘s story. Every single one of our characters was somehow connected to Thajazi Fang, be that as a close personal friend, an old wartime comrade, or a business acquaintance in some shady dealings. Although many of our main characters worked very hard and in many different ways to prevent Thajazi’s execution, in the end, they were unable to do so. Now much of the story of Critical Role Campaign 4 revolves around understanding why Thajazi Fang had to die, where the plan to save him went wrong, and what deep plots he was involved in just before he was killed.
Critical Role Campaign 4, Episode Three Deaths
Sir Julien Davinos Watches His Father, General Raimond Davinos, Die

General Raimond Davinos, we barely knew ye! Matt Mercer’s character, Sir Julien Davinos, is that kind of character, what we like to term a hot, angsty guy with an attitude problem, alternatively, a hater. So, OF COURSE, he had some daddy issues. We only recieved a few brief scenes between Julien and his father, but it was clear their relationship was strained, with Julien unable to understand his father’s loyalty and love for Thajazi Fang and Raimond Davinos, in turn, clearly disappointed by and in some ways ashamed of his son’s conduct and behavior.
But before we could dive too deeply into father and son’s interactions, General Raimond Davinos was unceremoniously murdered by Lord Primus Tachonis in a surprise attack by House Tachonis on Houses Royce and Davinos. Primus Tachonis, half a shade, reaches his hand literally into Raimond Davinos, clutches his brain and spinal cord and yanking it out of his body—killing him instantly.

Alex Ward’s Occtis Tachonis Meets His Death in Critical Role Campaign 4, Episode 4 (But Comes Back to Life)

In Critical Role Campaign 4 episode FOUR, we get our first major character death—that of Alex Ward’s Occtis Tachonis. Without so much as three rolls, Occtis Tachonis is viciously killed by his own brother, Ethrand Tachonis. As House Tachonis attacks House Royce and House Davinos at Palazzo Davinos, a part of their attack seems specifically targeted to find Occtis, whom they feel has betrayed them by helping in the plot to save Thajazi Fang from execution. Occtis is pushed against a table, held down by a garrot, and then literally gutted like a fish by his brother. Ethrand Tachonis then yanks out the heart of Occtis Tachonis, replacing it with the Stone of Nightsong that the Tachonis’ have somehow gotten their hands on from Thajazi Fang’s safehouse.
Unlike Raimond Davinos’ death, though, Occtis Tachonis does not immediately die. Instead, we meet him in a kind of midway space of death, described as a path through the forest. On that path, he is both being called to life by Thaisha Lloy and being called to some dark place by his father and family. He plucks the Stone of Nightsong out of himself in this realm, and his soul all but vanishes. For a minute, it seems like Alex Ward’s time as Occtis Tachonis in Critical Role Campaign 4 really was cut short by death.
Occtis Comes Back From Death with the Help of Murray, Bolaire, and the Stone of Nightsong
But, of course, it is not so. Bolaire, Murray, Azune, and Hal manage to reconstitute the dark candle used by the Tachonis House to try to tear the veil between AramĂ¡n and the lands of the dead, and that seems to go a ways in undoing some of the harm done. Additionally, Thaisha Lloy casts healing spells on Occtis, mending some of his wounds though not repairing them all. And, of course, the cherry on top, upon seeing Occtis’ lifeless body, Marisha Ray’s Murray Mag’Nesson and Sam Reigel’s Bolaire come together to do the near impossible, reverse the flow of the river of death to return Occtis to our world.
Murray uses her portent, and Bolaire rolls a Natural 20 of assistance, and together, they are able to undo the great wrong that has befallen Occtis. As Game Master Brennan Lee Mulligan shares, sometimes events are so heavy with gravity, they send the ripple of the stream in reverse. With the help of the Stone of Night Song, Occtis is delivered back to the land of the living, though he is not alive. Occtis’ body is technially dead, but Alex Ward will continue playing. PHEW. What Occtis technically is, we’ll have to wait for more Critical Role Campaign 4 to find out.
Poor Pin, the Fox, Also Died!

Poor Pin, the Undead Fox, she also met her death alongside her master, whose magic kept her undead-alive. But happily, when Occtis returned to life, so did Pin, PHEW! Pin very viscerally burst back out of Occtis body after he came back to life. (Yuck, but yay!)
