How Does IWTV’s Daniel Molloy Appear in TALAMASCA? Eric Bogosian’s Cameo, Explained Rotem Rusak | usagoldmines.com

AMC’s Immortal Universe brings Anne Rice’s writings to life through a series of TV shows set in the same world. The latest entry in this collection is Talamasca: The Secret Order, a series that centers on Rice’s mysterious spy-like organization, the Talamasca, which exists to keep tabs on all manner of supernatural denizens inhabiting our world. But as we said, the Immortal Universe is interconnected. In the very first episode of Talamasca, we see a familiar face crossing over from AMC’s Interview with the Vampire series: Eric Bogosian’s Daniel Molloy. But how does Eric Bogosian’s Daniel Molloy fit into the story of Talamasca: The Secret Order? And, with The Vampire Lestat right around the corner, what do we learn about Interview with the Vampire‘s Daniel through this cameo? Let’s dive into all things Eric Bogosian, Daniel Molloy, and Talamasca.

Why Does Eric Bogosian’s Daniel Molloy Appear in Talamasca: The Secret Order?

In a bid to convince the psychic Guy Anatole to join the Talamasca, Helen, the leader of the Talamasca’s New York Motherhouse (Headquarters), takes Guy to meet a real-life vampire, Burton. And while ultimately effective, this visit yields some unexpected revelations for Guy that Helen probably didn’t bargain for.

Burton, played by Jason Schwartzman, can immediately sense Guy’s unnatural powers and his lack of control over them, and then messes around in his head to make a point. He also warns Guy that the Talamsca is lying to him. Later that night, Burton ostensibly breaks into Guy’s apartment and leaves him a strange gift to prove his point about the Talamasca: a copy of Daniel Molloy’s Interview with the Vampire book open to a highlighted passage naming Guy’s mother as a potential victim of Louis and Armand. Guy, who believed his mother died in an overdose, is obviously shaken by her presence in Molloy’s Interview with the Vampire tome. He decides to track down Daniel Molloy and confront him for answers. And so, Interview with the Vampire‘s Daniel enters the world of the Talamasca.

What’s Interview with the Vampire‘s Daniel Molloy Up to When We See Him in Talamasca?

It’s good to see Eric Bogosian’s Daniel Molloy again in Talamasca: The Secret Order; it’s been way too long since the Interview with the Vampire season two finale. And we’ve missed that snark. But what is Bogosian’s Molloy up to when we see him in Talamasca? Well, basically the same thing he was doing when we last saw him in Interview with the Vampire. Daniel Molloy is on a press tour for his (non-fiction) book, Interview with the Vampire. In the Talamasca series, Daniel Molloy is holding a reading and a signing for his fans, which Guy crashes to demand some answers about his mother.

In fact, for Interview with the Vampire fans in our universe, Talamasca offers some actual excerpts from Daniel Molloy’s in-universe book, which we’ve transcribed here. Yes, Interview with the Vampire is now a book in the series based on the book Interview with the Vampire, which also appears in the spin-off series for that series, Talamasca. Say that five times fast!

What Does Daniel Molloy Reveal to Guy Anatole in Talamasca: The Secret Order?

At the signing, Guy confronts Bogosian’s Daniel Molloy about the mention of his mother in the Interview with the Vampire book. Daniel Molloy tells Guy to meet him outside the bookstore for a private chat after he’s done with the rest of the crowd, via an autograph in the book.

In Talamasca‘s first episode, Guy demands to know why Daniel Molloy wrote about his mother, Anna Leamas, in his book. Bogosian’s Daniel retorts that he “wrote about a vampire,” and that Guy’s mother was just a footnote. He also claims that he only knows “what he was told” about Guy’s mother, and Guy responds the same. What Guy knows is that his mother was an addict who died when he was nine. What Daniel knows is that it was the Talmasca, not Daniel, who wore page 227—the page where Guy’s mother’s name appears.

As they discuss the matter at hand, Guy overhears Daniel Molloy thinking, “Is this about 752?” Daniel won’t give guy any straight answers about what the mysterious 752 is, or what it has to do with the Talamasca, but he does offer Guy something very important, the knowledge that his mother is still alive. Noting that “doesn’t like to be rewritten,” he gives Guy a modern-day image of his mother, indicating that she is not dead after all. Despite this, Daniel Molloy cautions Guy not to go after her and won’t give him any details of her whereabouts, noting he should ask the Talamasca if he wants more information.

Ultimately, Guy discerns from the photo that his mother is in London; this feels like it will tip Guy over into accepting the Talamasca’s offer to join their ranks and help solve the trouble in their London Motherhouse.

How Is Daniel Molloy Connected to the Talamasca?

Eric Bogosian’s Daniel Molloy became connected with the Talmasca in Interview with the Vampire season two. An agent named Raglan James, played by Justin Kirk, assisted him in obtaining the materials he needed to reveal the truth about Louis and Armand’s story in Interview with the Vampire. The Talamasca wanted to release a version of the story to the public. Raglan James will also appear in Talamasca: The Secret Order.

Additionally, the Talamasca helped Daniel Molloy to literally publish his book. But in Talamasca: The Secret Order, we learn that they heavily edited sections of it, something Daniel does not appreciate. Helen also notes that not all of the Talamasca were on board to publish Daniel Molloy’s Interview with the Vampire. She reveals that the Amsterdam Motherhouse was responsible for that decision.

Eric Bogosian’s Daniel Molloy seems to resent the Talamasca, telling Guy, “They’re using you.” In the official website for Talamasca: The Secret Order, Daniel Molloy’s Talamasca profile reads as follows: “Author of Talamasca-approved exposé, Interview with the Vampire / Secured as confidential informant / Opportunity to further leverage existing relationships with vampire community.” Yeah, we bet Daniel does NOT like that status.

What Do We Learn About Daniel Molloy in Talamasca, Ahead of The Vampire Lestat/Interview with the Vampire Season 3?

Eric Bogosian’s cameo in Talamasca: The Secret Order is our second good look at Daniel Molloy since he became a vampire, and it’s an interesting one. While the Vampire Daniel was full of bravado and irreverence when we last saw him during Interview with the Vampire season two, things are a little bit different now. Daniel seems genuinely overwhelmed by his new status as a vampire and struggles to control his fledgling urges in Talamasca. He orders Guy to leave him before he “does something he’ll regret,” and seems to lose some fine thread of control after a certain amount of time passes in the other’s presence, shifting to loom over Guy, his hunger for blood clearly rising to the surface.

Interestingly, Eric Bogosian’s Daniel Molloy feels, well, young. And he is, in Vampiric terms. We don’t know precisely how long it’s been since Daniel became a vampire, but we do know he is a baby in vampire years. And Bogosian’s performance really sells that in his Talamasca appearance as Daniel Molloy. Daniel seems afraid of himself, fearful of what he might do, and small in a spiritual sense. Like he’s trying to contend with all these new feelings and powers, but doesn’t exactly have a handle on himself yet… Like a toddler trying to walk. As we mentioned, when we last saw Daniel, he had a lot of vampiric swagger, so this new shade of him in Talamasca has us very eager to see what Bogosian will bring to The Vampire Lestat.

But will we see Eric Bogosian and Daniel Molloy again after the first episode of Anne Rice’s Talmasca: The Secret Order? The truth is, we don’t know. But we certainly hope Daniel Molloy will return for more in Talamasca. We are always happy to see him again.
