In 2023, Five Nights at Freddy’s made the move from video games to theaters. And what a move it was! The film was a massive box office success. Now Blumhouse is hoping to recreate that horror movie magic with an even scarier sequel. Can it live up to those expectations? The great new trailer for Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 shows it actually might.
Things are once again not so fun for Josh Hutcherson’s Mike. Not long after he survived his encounter with the world’s most deadly animatronics, he’ll find himself facing off with them yet again. Here’s the film’s official synopsis from Universal Pictures:
One year has passed since the supernatural nightmare at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. The stories about what transpired there have been twisted into a campy local legend, inspiring the town’s first ever Fazfest. Former security guard Mike and police officer Vanessa (Elizabeth Lail) have kept the truth from Mike’s 11-year-old sister, Abby (Piper Rubio), concerning the fate of her animatronic friends. But when Abby sneaks out to reconnect with Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy, it will set into motion a terrifying series of events, revealing dark secrets about the true origin of Freddy’s, and unleashing a long-forgotten horror hidden away for decades.
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 will once again see director Emma Tammi behind the camera. Game series creator Scott Cawthon also returned to write the script. The film will also see original stars Theodus Crane (as Jeremiah) and Matthew Lillard (as William Afton) reprising their roles. Newcomers to the franchise include Freddy Carter (Shadow and Bone), Wayne Knight (Seinfeld), and Mckenna Grace (Ghostbusters). It will also serve as a mini Scream reunion, as Skeet Ulrich (Scream) will share the screen with his fellow original Ghostface killer.
What Is the Release Date for Five Nights at Freddy’s 2?
Will Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 match the success of its predecessor? We think it will. But we won’t find out until it starts having fun in theaters on December 5, 2025.
