The MGM Grand Hotel and Casino, which opened in Vegas in 1993, has undergone a massive $300 million room and suite model within the main tower.
A new collection of 3,969 rooms and suites have been unveiled, with the interiors being inspired “by the glamour and energy of the disco era, embracing the hotel’s vibrant legacy as an icon of entertainment.”
“MGM Grand has long stood out as one of the most iconic resorts on The Strip, and this remodel marks an ambitious step forward in the resort’s evolution,” said Mike Neubecker, President & COO of MGM Grand in a press release. “Inspired by our guests’ feedback, we’ve designed rooms that deliver what both business and leisure travelers value most, providing a thoughtful balance of style, comfort and functionality.”
The resort is arguably one of the most famous on the Las Vegas Strip and it has stood in the same spot for over 30 years now. When it first opened, the company ran with a Wizard of Oz theme but renovations in 1996 – just three years after opening – saw a more classic design replace the original theme.
The renovation comes as MGM Resorts released its third-quarter report at the end of last month. Jonathan Halkyard, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of MGM Resorts International, said, “We are seeing encouraging signs of stability in Las Vegas with the return of the group and convention season and the completion of the MGM Grand room remodel.” The company stated that the 7% decrease in the current quarter compared with the prior-year quarter was due to the changes made at MGM Grand.
What is new at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas?
The remodeled rooms and suites have been designed with the ‘modern traveler’ in mind, with the bathrooms now featuring ‘spa-like walk-in showers’ and enhanced blackout drapery.
An additional 111 suites have been added to the hotel’s collection which brings the total up to 753, and these suites range from 675 to 1,784 square feet.
The hotel has been busy focusing on introducing more experience-led opportunities too, as they’ve recently debuted Netflix Bites. This is a dining venue inspired by hit Netflix shows. Other new additions include the Palm Tree Beach Club which is a tropical-inspired day club by DJ Kygo’s Palm Tree Crew. The FRIENDS Experience is another addition too, with this being focused solely on the iconic TV show which dominated the 90s and noughties.
