If there’s one thing we love, it’s an actor who is willing to do basically anything, knowing that if he does it, it will be cool. And there’s no actor capable of doing that quite like Walton Goggins. Goggins can pull off a deeply emotional performance without a nose as Fallout‘s The Ghoul, he can make his wacky brand of sunglasses, Goggins’ Goggles, look incredibly suave, and, yes, he can transform into Walmart’s version of the Grinch and offer a devastating performance that is sassy, hilarious, and dare we say it, very queer. If we weren’t in love with Goggins before his award-winning take on the Grinch, we certainly are now. You can watch Goggins’ “Mt. Crumpit” Grinch short/Black Friday ad below.
We have to hand it to Walmart; hiring Walton Goggins to play the Grinch is a 10/10 way to get us to pay attention to their Black Friday deals. The man could make even… an ad for Black Friday Deals enticing. And we are obsessed with the ad’s chaotic, absurd energy. The Grinch shading “Mindy Lou” for not dressing appropriately for the occasion of sharing festive news? Truly the stuff of legends. We have to really applaud the commitment to acting that Goggins put into his rendition of the Grinch. He is NOT phoning it in. He is fully there, thinking green. Someone nominate this ad for an Oscar, stat.
We’re not sure if Walton Goggins is actually angling to play the Grinch in a reboot of the classic holiday movie, but we bet somewhere out there a studio is scrambling to make it happen right now. As the Grinch in this Walmart ad so aptly (and a bit smugly) predicts, “Prepare to go viral.” Uhuh. Well, you got us. If you put Walton Goggins in a Grinch suit, people are going to talk about it, and so are we.
