Critical Role‘s newest animated series has arrived on Prime Video. The Mighty Nein is officially out in the world and it’s bringing with it a gorgeous new version of the show we all know and love. Per Nerdist‘s review of the show, “The Mighty Nein‘s TV series form is familiar to the Critical Role campaign but distinctly different, and the show’s willingness to be fluid with its adaptation works wonders.” And that means that even Critical Role diehards (Critters <3) will have some mysteries to unravel. In episode one of The Mighty Nein, we meet an important component of the series and the campaign, the Luxon Beacon. Clearly, this relic has much to do with time, space, and life. So when the Luxon Beacon revealed some visions to us in episode one, that may or may not be images of The Mighty Nein‘s series future, we were certainly paying attention. But what did we see in the Beacon? Using our Critical Role knowledge, join us as we break down what the Luxon Beacon revealed to viewers in The Mighty Nein.

The Luxon Beacon Shows Us a Murdered King Dwendal
Uhoh. We know Trent Ikithon, the Archmage of Civil Influence for the Cerberus Assembly in Rexxentrum, gives us bad vibes on The Mighty Nein series. He never seems to be up to any good and clearly has a slimy, manipulative energy and a perspective on life that makes him happy to torture people. (Viewers of Critical Role‘s second campaign can confirm.)

In episode one of The Mighty Nein, the Luxon Beacon reveals a flash of Trent Ikithon standing next to the murdered King Dwendal. It’s worth noting that Trent Ikithon did not murder King Dwendal in Critical Role Campaign 2, but as we’ve noted above, the adaptive nature of the series means it could happen in the Prime Video show.
Mollymauk Tealeaf’s First The Mighty Nein Appearance Is in the Luxon Beacon

Next up, the Luxon Beacon gives us our first look at Mollymauk Tealeaf in The Mighty Nein series. Longtime Critical Role fans will recognize this iconic The Mighty Nein character even from the back of his head. Mollymauk Tealeaf is a tiefling blood hunter, a character class invented by Matt Mercer and co for Critical Role Campaign 2. Blood hunters use health as their main resource, augmenting their magic with hemocraft, or blood magic. Mollymauk Tealeaf is Taliesin Jaffe’s player character in the campaign.
The Luxon Beacon Flashes Forward Through Critical Role‘s Campaign, Revealing Yasha Nydoorin Stabbing Beau with a Sword

Gasp! We hate when our favs are fighting (or made to fight, as the case may be), but some things are pre-ordained. In episode one of The Mighty Nein series, the Luxon Beacon shows us an image of Yasha Nydoorin stabbing Beau with a massive great sword. This scene comes right from Critical Role Campaign 2 episode 86, “The Cathedral.” In it, a mysterious entity takes control of Yasha and she stabs Beau in Chantry of the Dawn, a cathedral in Rexxentrum.
If we see the pair head in there, we’ll have to steel ourselves. But we love how The Mighty Nein series is using the Luxon Beacon to already weave in pieces from later episodes of the Critical Role campaign.
We See a Glimpse of the Aeor Ruins in Eiselcross

It’s only episode one of The Mighty Nein Prime Video series, and already, we’re getting a look at the end of the campaign. It’s unclear when this image of the Aeor Ruins in Eiselcross will come into play in The Mighty Nein show, but the series is already making clear that we can expect them at some point. The Aeor ruins in Eiselcross are the remains of a great floating city of mages that crashed into the ground long ago. Aeor was the home to powerful technology and magic, so anything could happen there. The Aeor Ruins actually play a major role in Critical Role Campaign 2‘s Weird Magic Arc, which happens towards the end of The Mighty Nein‘s original series.
The Luxon Beacon Reveals the Eyes of Nine, the Somnovem, Will Come to The Mighty Nein Series

Woah! The last image the Luxon Beacon shows us in episode one of The Mighty Nein series is a doozy. This Luxon Beacon vision is an incredibly spoilery glimpse at the endgame of The Mighty Nein campaign, and probably a reveal of the ultimate direction the show is heading in as well. The Somnovem, also known as the Eyes of Nine, are a group of powerful beings trying to influence events from beyond this plane of existence. We bet we’ll be seeing more of them soon.
The Lux Beacon Shows Us a Glimpse of What’s to Come on Prime Video’s The Mighty Nein

The Mighty Nein‘s first episode starts off with a bang, hitting us with a slew of Critical Role Campaign 2 teases. In a really clever way, episode one sets the stage for SO many things to come in the show; potentially even beyond season one. It’s enough to whet the appetite of long-time Critters and get those not in the know excited.
The Mighty Nein is now streaming on Prime Video. New episodes release on Wednesdays.
