We will only have one more season to go into the cordyceps-infected world of The Last of Us. According to a report, the HBO hit video game adaptation will end after its third season rather than a fourth season, as was originally projected. But even though we’re about to wind down the harrowing tale on screen doesn’t mean we won’t get new faces on the show. From Deadline, two new actors will be joining for the third season. One will play a new character while the other will be replacing another actor.
First up, we have veteran actor Clea Duvall (Veep, The Faculty, among others) will join the series as a Seraphite for the third and final season of The Last of Us. If you remember, the Seraphites, or “Scars,” are the nomadic cult who are constant adversaries of the WLF forces. Seraphites perform brutally violent rituals against anyone with “old world” ideologies.
Jorge Lendeborg Jr., who has appeared in Bumblebee and the MCU Spider-Man movies, will play Manny in The Last of Us season three. He replaces Danny Ramirez who played Manny in a recurring role in season two. Ramirez had to bow out of the season for scheduling reasons, presumably tied to his Marvel responsibilities as Joaquin Torres, aka Falcon, in Avengers: Secret Wars. Manny is one of Abby’s (Kaitlyn Dever) cohorts who helped her capture and kill Joel. Manny was easily the most brutal member of that group.
Ramirez’s departure is hardly the biggest shakeup between seasons two and three. Last year, we learned The Last of Us creator and Naughty Dog president Neil Druckmann was leaving the HBO series, ceding full creative control to writer-producer Craig Mazin. Season two of The Last of Us had been less of a hit than the first season, which makes sense given the same was true for the video game. Still, this splitting, plus the shortening of the series’ lifespan, certainly does reflect tumult.
