In Fallout season two, episode three, we met Macaulay Culkin’s character, Lacerate Legate, the second-in-command of Caesar’s Legion during the time of the live-action series. Culkin’s Legion character made quite the impression, but didn’t return again… until Fallout season two’s finale. So what happened to Macaulay Culkin’s character in Fallout season two’s finale? And how does he figure into the story to come? Let’s just say, Lacerate Legate got himself a promotion.

Macaulay Culkin Becomes Caesar in Fallout Season 2’s Finale
Macaulay Culkin’s Legion character becomes Caesar in Fallout season two’s finale. Who saw that coming? We bet, everyone. But, hey, you never know. Culkin’s appearance could have just been a one-off cameo on the Fallout series. But no, Macaulay Culkin is officially in charge of the Legion, a truly important Fallout faction. Here’s how Macaulay Culkin’s Lacerate Legate rose to the role of Caesar on Fallout season two.

How Did Macaulay Culkin Become Caesar in Fallout Season 2’s Finale?
We learned earlier in Fallout season two that Edward Sallow, the original founder of Caesar’s Legion from Fallout: New Vegas, died in the fifteen years between the game and the series. Whether he died as he does in some game endings or in a totally different way is left purposefully ambiguous to ensure that all the endings of Fallout: New Vegas remain canon. But, regardless, the Fallout series tells us that Edward Sallow left a note in his pocket naming the heir to Caesar’s Legion before his death. Of course, more than one person insisted that the mystery note referred to them, and civil war broke out in the Legion; two factions arose, each with its own Caesar. Naturally, neither purported Caesar allowed the other Caesar or his followers to actually find and read the note in order to confirm the heir Sallow intended.
In Fallout season two, The Ghoul sparked the infighting between the two factions of Caesar’s Legion and set the two sides into open war against each other. In the chaos, the self-appointed Caesars died, and Macaulay Culkin’s character, Lacerate Legate, was finally able to approach Edward Sallow’s body and read the note the original Caesar left behind. These variables together allowed Macaulay Culkin’s character to become Caesar and appoint himself head of the Legion on Fallout… But not because the note named Culkin’s character to the role.
Does Edward Sallow’s Note Name Macaulay Culkin as Caesar on Fallout Season 2? What Does the Note Say?
So what did Edward Sallow’s note say? And did he name any heir at all? The answer is, as befitting of Fallout, nope. Though he was the original founder of the faction, Edward Sallow didn’t care about the future of Caesar’s Legion. He cared only about himself. Here’s what Edward Sallow wrote in his Fallout note: “I am Caesar, I am the Legion. It ends with me.” Excuse my language, but LOL!

But, also in Fallout fashion, the dead do not get a vote. Macaulay Culkin’s character is able to read Edward Sallow’s note in Fallout season two’s finale with only one other person for company. And he doesn’t like what it says. So… he swallows it, as you do, stabs the one other Legion member who saw him with it, and yes, declares himself the new Caesar. “Caesar is dead, long live Caesar.” Culkin’s character, henceforth known as Caesar, tells the Legion as he crowns himself the new Caesar. Interestingly enough, the Legion, perhaps charmed by Culkin’s rizz, perhaps just tired of not having a Caesar, wholeheartedly accepts this. And so, Macaulay Culkin has become Caesar on Fallout season two.
What Are Macaulay Culkin’s Caesar and Caesar’s Legion Planning to Do on Fallout Season 2’s Finale?
Caesar’s Legion officially has a Caesar again. And that’s frightening because when the Legion was busy fighting one another, they weren’t menacing anyone else. But now that they’re unified and without an enemy, they’re ready to set their sights on the Wasteland. Macaulay Culkin’s Caesar declares on Fallout season two’s final episode, “Together we will reclaim the Holy Land that they call Vegas. There we will build a palace, worthy of our Empire… Caesar’s Palace!… Now to New Vegas.” (Get it, Caesar’s Palace!!!)
And it looks like Caesar’s Legion is not wasting any time—Lucy and Maximus see them marching toward Las Vegas at the very end of Fallout season two’s finale. But with both the NCR and Mr. House at play again, reclaiming the Holy Land might be more complicated than they imagine.
Will Macaulay Culkin’s Caesar Return in Fallout Season 3?

How the Legion will fare in their divine quest remains unknown. But something else seems pretty clear. Now that he is Caesar, and with a war in New Vegas literally around the corner, we’re certain that Macaulay Culkin and Caesar will indeed return in Fallout season three. Hail Kaizer, or what have you.
Fallout seasons 1 and 2 are now streaming on Prime Video.
