Ask us to recommend a streaming video player for most people in 2026 and we wouldn’t send you to Amazon, Roku, or even Apple. Instead, our answer—maybe a surprising one? — would be Walmart.
A quick look at our top streaming video player picks reveals not one, not two, but three 4K-enabled Walmart Onn models: the Walmart Onn 4K Plus, the Onn 4K Pro, and the Onn 4K Streaming Box.
Those three players comprise Walmart’s entire Onn line of 4K streaming devices and, from our perspective, you can’t go wrong with any of them. You also can’t buy them at the moment or at least not from Walmart.

A check of Walmart’s online storefront from the New York area shows all three of those 4K Onn players as “out of stock” and other observers have noticed the same thing in their respective regions.
So, is Walmart simply clearing out its stock of current Onn streaming units to make way for new models? Perhaps, with the most likely candidates being the 4K Streaming Box from 2023 and the Onn 4K Pro from mid-2024. But the Onn 4K Plus came out only in the middle of last year, and it’s out of stock, too.
(It’s worth pointing out that while Walmart’s 4K Onn streaming players are currently tough to get, the Onn Full HD streaming stick is readily available.)
Another reason for the Onn 4K shortage could simply be that they’re good, and thus in high demand.
We’ve consistently given high marks to all of Walmart’s Onn streamers, with our own Jared Newman calling the Onn 4K Plus—which supports both Dolby Vision and Atmos for less than $30—a “surprisingly fast” device that “gives you more than the competition” and is “tough to beat.”
Finally, there’s chatter of an Amazon Fire TV backlash due to its restrictive policies toward sideloading. Specifically, Amazon has been blocking Fire TV apps linked to video piracy, and it’s reportedly gone from disabling the functionality of the apps to blocking them from being installed at all.
Amazon also raised hackles with the recent release of the Fire TV Stick 4K Select, a budget streaming player that it runs on a new operating system—Vega OS—that doesn’t allow any side-loaded apps, period. Google TV streaming devices, meanwhile, still do allow for side-loading.
In any event, the fact remains that Walmart’s 4K-enabled Onn streaming players are tough to come by these days, so if you’re in the market for one and see it in stock, you might want to grab it.
