Star Trek turns 60 in 2026, and IDW Comics is celebrating in a big way. One new series launching this year should be of particular interest to Trekkers who have been patiently waiting for the proposed Star Trek: Legacy series that the final season of Picard hinted at. IDW’s new ongoing series is simply titled Star Trek, and centers on the adventures of Captain Seven of Nine of the Enterprise-G. The series comes to us from writer Christopher Cantwell (Iron Man) and artist Dennis Menheere (Hello Darkness). Here’s the official description from IDW, along with the cover from Menheere:
STAR TREK

The epic story about survival and legacy as a secret mission led by Captain Seven of Nine brings the Enterprise-G beyond the four quadrants of the galaxy for the first time ever. The Enterprise ventures into a hidden region of space where time fractures, minds unravel, and an unseen power manipulates fear itself—testing whether the Federation’s ideals of exploration are salvation… or the universe’s greatest mistake.

Captain Seven of Nine, commanding the Enterprise-G, was meant to be the basis for Terry Matalas’ Star Trek: Legacy. This was his proposed spin-off of Star Trek: Picard. Despite fans screaming for this show online, Paramount+ never greenlit the series. And now, it seems all parties involved have moved on. It may be that this comic book is the only version of an Enterprise-G series we’ll ever get.
Here’s what writer Christopher Cantwell said about his upcoming Star Trek series:
As we look back on 60 years of Star Trek, we celebrate a story universe that has actually always been about looking forward — a shared dream swirling within the daunting wonder and awe of the stars. I discovered Star Trek at the age of 10, and my life was never the same. The worlds, the people, the stories that wrestled with the work it takes to build community and consensus, to establish and hold sacred values like peace and harmony, the tenuousness of truce amid a galaxy of agendas and perspectives. That is the magic of Star Trek — the kaleidoscopic wonder of its complex themes and notions.
In building a brand new Star Trek adventure, we seek to do just that: create something brand new, something that looks entirely forward into the hope of the complete — and at times frightening — unknown, all as our ensemble of characters stands shoulder to shoulder, facing the expanse of an adventure never dared before. There is an abundance of incredible mythos that Star Trek has given us over six decades, but with this launch we seek to shed that past even as we embrace its best qualities.
STAR TREK: ZERO POINT

Will Star Trek have the same crew as Legacy would have had? Well, one character, Captain Seven’s first officer, Raffi Musiker from Picard, won’t be on the Enterprise-G. Instead, she’ll headline her own series, Star Trek: Zero Point, from writer Charlie Jane Anders. It seems Raffi Musiker is now a Captain herself, and commands a starship of her own. Here’s the official synopsis for the series, which has no official release date yet:
While the Enterprise vanishes beyond the galaxy tasked with preventing tomorrow’s disasters today — guided by a powerful artificial intelligence wearing the face of a familiar ally that may know too much, and understand too little about hope.
This means Captain Seven and her ex-girlfriend, Raffi, didn’t serve together on the Enterprise-G for very long. But we’re looking forward to a Captain Musiker saga just the same. Writer Charlie Jane Anders says, “I’ve loved Star Trek for as long as I can remember. Literally, some of my earliest memories are of wearing a homemade Starfleet uniform and waiting to get beamed up. I’m putting all my favorite Trek things into this comic: problem-solving, ethical dilemmas, identity crises, and above all, chosen family.”
STAR TREK: CELEBRATIONS

And finally, this year will also see the release of two exceptional one-shots honoring everything fans love about Star Trek. From an incredible lineup of LGBTQIA+ creators comes Star Trek: Celebrations 2026. Coming out in May, the special stars the universe’s queer characters. They’ll headline “Tales of love and triumph, exemplifying Gene Roddenberry’s mission for us all to one day celebrate infinite diversity in infinite combinations.”
STAR TREK: 60TH ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL
And in September, the franchise’s actual 60th anniversary date, IDW will release the 50-page Star Trek: 60th Anniversary Special. This celebratory comic features several all-new stories by Dana Gould, Ryan North and Derek Charm, David Walker, Megan Camerena, and more. In addition, it will showcase covers by Michael Cho, John Tyler Christopher, Chris Fenoglio, and other notable names. Other Star Trek comics will drop throughout the year, including a Starfleet Academy tie-in series. 2026 is aiming to be one of the franchise’s most notable anniversary years yet.
