After a pair (and a half) of great Spider-Man games, not to mention what looks like it’ll be a pretty rad Wolverine game later this year, we’re in a good place with Marvel video games. That hasn’t really been the case since the early 8- and 16-bit days. Many of those early console and arcade titles starring Marvel Comics icons were as frustratingly difficult as they were beloved. Now, you don’t need to have ancient cartridges or personal arcade cabinets to play some of these. Limited Run Games has announced the Marvel MaXimum Collection package of 13* games to play on modern consoles. Check out the trailer below!
You might scratch your head having heard the claim (which we first saw on Newsweek) of 13 games. It sure doesn’t look like 13 to me. The asterisk inherent is that the list of games includes any of the alternate, other console or handheld versions of the same titles. Here’s the official list and Limited Run’s description.

As was the way of the late ’80s and early ’90s, the X-Men and Spider-Man are very overrepresented in this roster of games. But they’re also some games people tend to love, especially the original X-Men arcade game. You’re definitely going to need the in-game rewind and cheat menus function in the collection for the NES Silver Surfer game. That is infamous for its crushing difficulty. It made the Angry Video Game Nerd go insane. Although that was true of every game.
While the Marvel MaXimum Collection doesn’t have a release date yet, fans can expect to pick it up on PS5, Xbox, Switch, and PC via Steam.
