Another Oscars’ season is done and dusted. The 98th Academy Awards on Sunday marked a big night for horror, with Ryan Coogler’s Sinners taking home four Oscars this year. One Battle After Another also had a lot to celebrate, nabbing the win across six categories, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay. Met with roaring applause, Michael B. Jordan beat out Timothée Chalamet for Best Actor. As a matter of fact, Josh Safdie’s ping pong flick went home empty-handed, despite receiving nine nominations. Dare I say we’re not even the slightest bit upset about this Marty Supreme snub and total Oscars shutout?

The name “Timothée Chalamet” is one that’s stirring up a lot of controversy right now. His loss at the Oscars follows shortly after he made a comment dismissing ballet and opera as dying art forms. The comment was met with a boatload of criticism, including from those within the industry. Steven Spielberg, for example, shaded the actor at the South by Southwest Film Festival. To anyone who loves the arts, it’s not an ideal sentiment to hear expressed. Thus, the Marty Supreme shutout at the Oscars didn’t move anyone too much. Hopefully, Chalamet has reconsidered his stance. But, in the meantime, a ton of support is being mustered up for opera and ballet, and we do like that.
I saw Marty Supreme, and it was good. Not my favorite of the nominees, but good. I also saw Sinners and One Battle After Another. I believe Safdie’s flick is deserving of its nominations, but looking at what it’s up against? I’m not surprised, nor upset, with how the Oscars shook out.
Marty Supreme picked up nine Oscar nominations this year, including for Best Actor, Best Director, and Best Picture. Chalamet saw some success at the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards, but that luck did not follow him to the Oscars. Instead, the ping pong movie took home a giant goose egg. You can’t win ’em all.

Echoing from before, One Battle and Sinners were the Oscars’ big winners in 2026. Other notable mentions include Jessie Buckley snagging the win for Best Actress, not that it wasn’t hers to begin with. I’m over the moon about it and will forever support Jessie Buckley until I die.
All in all, it was a pretty solid Oscars. Nothing too shocking, no major upsets, just movie people loving movies. For what it’s worth, I’m sure there’s a den of Marty Supreme devotees out there who might be a little upset right now, given its 0 Oscar wins. I, however, am not one of them. The majority of us are resting comfortably knowing that Michael B. Jordan was able to get his celebratory In-N-Out.
