“Till death do us part” is a phrase traditionally spoken at the end of every happy couple’s wedding vows. The comically violent trailer for Over Your Dead Body takes the words quite literally. Starring Samara Weaving and Jason Segel as the “happily” married couple, Over Your Dead Body is a hilarious depiction of what you probably shouldn’t do when trapped in a loveless marriage. Over Your Dead Body Trailer Serves Up Murderous Marital Mayhem
Life partners Dan (Segel) and Lisa (Weaving) are miserable. I get it, marriage is hard (I say as an unmarried woman). But is murder REALLY the answer? When it comes to fictional entertainment, the answer is almost always yes. The couple plans a getaway at a secluded cabin to work through their marital issues, neither one realizing that the other plans to kill the other. What unfolds is a bloody, comical rollercoaster as Dan and Lisa attempt to thwart each other’s multiple murder attempts. Things get even more wild when unwelcome guests (Timothy Olyphant and Juliette Lewis) crash the party, snowballing into an all-out brawl.
The trailer is full of gory action and hilarious one-liners. One of my personal favorites comes when Weaving and Segel’s characters are bickering at the table. After discovering his plan to kill her and dump her body in the lake, Lisa ties Dan to a chair. “Should we just renew our vows and f**king do it on the table?” Weaving delivers in her full Aussie accent.
Over Your Dead Body debuted at SXSW this year and went home an audience award winner. It premiered alongside Weaving’s other new project, Ready or Not Here I Come. The film is directed by Jorma Taccone and made by Independent Film Company.
Poor Samara Weaving just can’t catch a break when it comes to dating, can she? Finding out her husband is part of some devil-worshipping cult in Ready or Not, being brutally murdered on her way to a first date in Scream 6, and now stuck in a vengeful marriage? Get the girl in a rom-com, stat. I suppose we can’t complain. If there’s anything she’s good at, it’s kicking some butt in a bloody comedy thriller.In Theaters Nationwide April 24, 2026
