Since 2023, it’s been possible to share your Netflix account with someone who doesn’t live in your household. Account sharing relies on separate profiles and comes with additional costs, but otherwise wasn’t subject to strict rules. That now appears to be changing.
As reported by Android Authority, Netflix is introducing new login requirements for the different profiles within a Netflix account. Users on Reddit report that in recent weeks they’ve been asked to provide a separate email address for each profile on the account.
According to the prompt for email addresses, this move is intended to make logging in easier, simplify account recovery, offer users more personalized recommendations, and more. However, skeptics view it as an additional way for Netflix to collect data and control users.
In the Reddit thread, one user posted a customer support screenshot that apparently confirms no way to opt out of this requirement.
It’s still unclear when the new email requirement for profiles will be rolled out more widely. Some users report that Netflix customer service doesn’t seem to be aware of this feature yet, and there hasn’t been an official announcement yet (though it seems to be only a matter of time).
Aside from that, it seems nothing else will change regarding how you share your Netflix account and how much it costs to do so.
