Back at Google I/O, Google showed off what it believes to be the future of Gmail, Docs, and Keep. That future is mostly a Gemini Live experience within each, where you can talk to those apps to find info, create documents, and organize your life or tasks through Keep.
Those experiences are now rolling out starting this week, although you may not see them right away, because this is a Google rollout that you have no control over. Also, you need to pay for Google AI plans, so these aren’t even for free users. Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers get Gmail and Keep Live experiences, while you’ll need Pro or Ultra to get Live in Docs.
For Gmail Live, Google hopes you’ll never tap on the search bar in Gmail again and instead ask Gmail for what you are looking for. Whether that’s to find out more on your kids’ week at school or an upcoming trip, asking Gmail Live will give you a spoken response with an organized message full of those details.
For Keep Live, you’ll be able to organize thoughts into a Keep note and even go beyond a single note. For example, you could ask it about an upcoming project or recipe you have, it’ll then find instructions for those, plus you can have materials or groceries from them added separately to shopping lists.
And for Docs Live, this is where you have ideas that might fit better in a document, so you can simply speak to Docs to have it put your words on paper and then potentially add useful information from connected apps, like Gmail, Drive, etc.
