Woman Loses $73,000 After Bank of America Fraud-Unit Impersonators Direct Massive Wire Transfer: Report Daily Hodl Agent | usagoldmines.com

A Georgia woman has reportedly lost $73,000 after callers posing as Bank of America fraud investigators and a police sergeant pushed her to pool her savings and wire the money out.

A woman claiming to work in the bank’s fraud unit said someone was stealing from her and patched her through to a supposed officer who had her move everything into one account, reports Mainstreet News.

The callers then told her to go to a Bank of America branch and send a wire to stop the theft.

At a branch, staff warned her she was being scammed. The caller then told her to leave and invent a different story at the next location.

She completed the $73,000 wire at a different Bank of America branch.

After she got home and told her husband, he knew she had been scammed. She called the bank to try to stop the transfer and later learned the money was already gone.

Banks typically treat wires that customers send in person as authorized transfers, which means the money is hard to get back and reimbursement rarely happens.
