Earlier this year, self-proclaimed architect of mythology Vin Diesel revealed that a Fast & Furious TV show was revving up. Now it’s officially on the streaming start line. Peacock has ordered a Fast & Furious series that will begin defying physics and logic in 2028.

Deadline first reported Peacock is bringing the the big screen franchise to the small screen. It has greenlit a Fast & Furious series from writers and co-showrunners Mike Daniels and Wolfe Coleman. Diesel will also serve as an executive producer along with the duo.
The show will premiere sometime in 2028, which is also when the (supposedly) final film in the franchise will also debut. Fast Forever—the 11th movie in the main franchise and 12th overall—will come to theaters on March 17, 2028. That could be a sign of what to expect from the show, as it might serve as a de facto sequel to the story. (Though whether it will include any actors or characters from the film side is unknown.)

The show almost didn’t happen. A skeptical Diesel said he was sold on the idea by Universal Studios chief Donna Langley. At NBCUniversals’ Upfront in May, Mr. Dominic Toretto said he became convinced “the integrity of the characters, the international appeal, what makes us all feel like family will be protected in the TV space.”
He’s the best and I love him. Especially because when he said that he also announced Peacock was working on three other additional Fast & Furious shows. He went from not believing in one to believing in multiple shows.
Will Fast & Furious Work as a TV Show? Nerdist’s Take: The Small Screen Could Flatten the Fun

As an unabashed Fast & Furious fan, I remain far more skeptical of this project than Vin Diesel. One of the best things about these movies is their scope. They are big, bold, epic, and wonderfully silly in the best way. TV will make all of those things smaller. But that doesn’t mean they still won’t be fun. It also doesn’t mean the show can’t be good. It just means the Fast & Furious TV show has a much harder race to win.
