There are many things to loathe about the 2020s, but this decade’s slate of mainstream and indie horror films is not one of them. From the ‘70s found footage nightmare of Late Night With the Devil to the unnerving curse in Smile, horror is having a great time with new properties. But, classic horror franchises and films are also getting sequels, like Scream and I Still Know What You Did Last Summer. Up next is 28 Years Later, a long-awaited third installment to the 28 Days Later franchise. Fans weren’t sure what to expect, but the idea of seeing Cillian Murphy reprise his role as Jim was enough to pique our curiosity. Now, the trailer for 28 Years Later is here and it commands our full attention.
Oftentimes, trailers are too damn long and reveal far too much of what’s going down in the movie. You can almost piece the entire thing together! But this clip is truly what a trailer should be for a horror film like this, a marriage of frightening, frantic, and disturbing imagery tinged with a creepy radio voiceover reciting the poem “Boots” by Rudyard Kipling. We don’t have to hear from the characters to be invested in their hellacious journey. The 28 Years Later trailer makes your heart pound profusely throughout every second. It is so, so good and perhaps a strong indicator that this film could be a summer splash.

28 Years Later is written and produced by Alex Garland and directed by Danny Boyle. The film stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Jamie alongside Jodie Comer, Jack O’Connell, Ralph Fiennes, and Alfie Williams, among others.
Is Cillian Murphy an Infected Zombie Jim in the 28 Years Later Trailer? It Could Be True, According to Comics
Interestingly, Cillian Murphy is not listed on the official poster for 28 Years Later as a cast member despite previous reports saying he would return as Jim. In the trailer, there is a zombie that briefly rises up out of a field full of yellow flowers and, well, it does look like Cillian Murphy. If he is in the film only as a weird infected zombie, that would be the funniest thing ever to me. And it is not out of the realm of possibilities.
In BOOM! Studios 28 Days Later comic series that follows Selena, Jim is captured and sentenced to execution for killing those soldiers and causing the downfall of Major Henry West’s terrible sex trafficking operation. Hannah is adopted by a German family, which leaves Selena on her own for more adventures. So maybe Cillian Murphy’s role in 28 Years Later is a Jim who was killed for some reason and is an infected zombie man chilling with the flowers. It could marry that comic story into the film franchise narrative in a creative way. Or, to be honest, it is quite easy for someone to die within a 28 years timespan, especially in this world. Who knows!
