The era of rebooting and reimagining properties from decades gone by continues with a beloved ‘90s cartoon. In news that none of us at Nerdist saw coming, Deadline reports that Rugrats has a live-action movie in the works. That is not necessarily bad news but what may make fans upset (or just perplexed) about this Rugrats film is that it is not just live-action, but also a CGI hybrid.
Saturday Night Live star Mikey Day is a co-writer on the script alongside Streeter Seidell with Jason Moore directing. It’s not super clear where its narrative will go, but we can assume the Rugrats live-action slash CGI movie will bring back our favorite quartet of Tommy, Chuckie, Phil, and Lil along with their parents. And it’s not truly an adaptation without characters like Angelica and Susie. But with the live-action part of it, that means they will presumably have real babies and make their mouths move with CGI. Ehhhh. We will see what happens.
