For regular moviegoers, the AMC A-List subscription service has been a blessing, allowing up to four movies a week for $28.00 a month. But according to Variety, AMC Theatres will offer a new perk to its loyalty program members. Customers who pay a monthly fee for A-List or Stubs Premiere will receive priority access to the best seats in their respective theaters. The program is expected to launch sometime in 2026, although an exact date is still up in the air. Here’s what AMC’s company chairman, Adam Aron, had to say during an investor call:
Later this year, AMC will introduce preferred premier seating, where we will block and reserve the best seats in the house in our theaters to be accessed first only by our A-List and our Stubs Premiere members — that’s the two VIP tiers within our Stubs program — at no added charge at AMC Theatres. We will assure the best seats in our auditoriums are held, at first anyway, for our best customers.
This means if you just want to see a movie, and aren’t someone who has A-List or are a Premiere Stubs Member, you won’t get access to the best seats in the house right away. And that’s not great for casual moviegoers. This seems like a way to funnel more people into their A-List program. And how long do they hold the seats for before letting non-A-List moviegoers get a crack? A week? 48 hours? We don’t know.
This seems fraught with problems. Last year, AMC raised the price of Stubs A-List to $27.99 per month in New York and California. It’s now $19.99 to $25.99 per month elsewhere in the country, depending on the state. We’ll have to wait and see how this plays out later this year.
