Like many movie lovers, we’ve grown weary of remakes. Not every one is bad or needless. Some are even great. But many can’t justify their existence. Plus, a remake means one less original film heading to theaters. We have no such worries about the new Anaconda, though. It’s a “remake” in name only. It will see Paul Rudd and Jack Black trying—and failing—to shoot their own version of the cult classic. As the film’s trailers have shown, that will lead them to their own serpentine nightmare. Turns out that was also true behind-the-scenes. Nerdist has an exclusive clip from the making of the film that shows Jack Black getting “goop’d” up Anaconda.
In this “Snake Bite” clip from Columbia Pictures, crew members apply a whole bunch of goo to make Jack Black looks extra slimy and gross. The process looks…..unpleasant. According to the actor, it also smells unpleasant. Well, at least it’s an uncomfortable experience for him. I very much relate to the person who used this opportunity to play belly bongos on him.
Why all the goo? It’s not actually about skincare. This new, intentionally comedic Anaconda is going to get pretty gnarly. Here’s the film’s official synopsis:
Doug (Black) and Griff (Rudd) have been best friends since they were kids, and have always dreamed of remaking their all-time favorite movie: the cinematic “classic” Anaconda. When a midlife crisis pushes them to finally go for it, they head deep into the Amazon to start filming. But things get real when an actual giant anaconda appears, turning their comically chaotic movie set into a deadly situation. The movie they’re dying to make? It might just get them killed……
We don’t yet know if Doug and Griff will survive their encounter with a big snake. But this “Snake Bite” shows making this “remake” was challenging enough.
