Universal Pictures and 4DX are teaming up for an immersive, multi-sensory Back to the Future experience. They’re going to let moviegoers feel like they’re actually flying in the DeLorean themselves. For the first time ever, the film will run in 4DX theaters.

Back to the Future is one of the most iconic films of the last half-century,” said Jim Orr, President of Domestic Theatrical Distribution for Universal Pictures, in a statement. “The film’s wit, wonder and wildly original storytelling continue to captivate audiences of all ages. With the first-ever release of the film in 4DX, this 40th anniversary celebration offers fans the most immersive ways yet to strapping into a DeLorean ride, where every jolt, burst of wind, and seat vibration brings time travel to life. It’s the ultimate blend of adrenaline and nostalgia—immersing audiences as if they’re being pulled through the space-time continuum with special effects including motion-synchronized seats, wind, fog, rain, lightning, snow, and vibration.”

The movie’s original 4DX poster captures the energy of both the film and its upcoming 4DX screenings. It puts us inside the DeLorean with Marty. We even see him hitting 88 miles per hour as the space-time continuum opens in front of him. Above, the car’s rearview mirror captures the flaming tire tracks Marty left behind.

Obviously there’s no plutonium in sight. If only…

In classic Back to the Future fashion, fans won’t need roads for this first-of-its-kind screening. Their theater seats will move for them. They will however, need 4DX tickets, and you can order yours here.
