BUFFY Reboot Is Canceled, Not Happening at Hulu Rotem Rusak | usagoldmines.com

Say it ain’t so! But it appears to be true. The Buffy reboot, which had gotten us all so excited, is now officially canceled at Hulu. It’s true that this Buffy the Vampire Slayer had only been greenlit for a pilot. But it really did seem like a SURE thing. We can’t speak for anyone else, but our readers were VERY excited about every piece of news about the idea of Buffy’s return. And for the Buffy reboot to be canceled so unexpectedly and unceremoniously before anyone even got to see if it was any good feels MASSIVELY unfair. Here’s what we know about this unexpected news.

Sarah Michelle Gellar herself took to Instagram to announce the sad news that the Buffy reboot series was dead. She shares, “So, I am really sad to have to share this, but I wanted you all to hear it from me. Unfortunately, Hulu has decided not to move forward with Buffy: New Sunnydale. I wanted to thank Chloé Zhao because I never thought I would find myself back in Buffy’s stylish yet affordable boots, and thanks to Chloé, I was reminded how much I love her, and how much she means not only to me, but to all of you. And this doesn’t change any of that.”

Gellar closed the somber message with a sweet allusion to one of Buffy’s best quotes, “And I promise, if the apocalypse actually comes, you could still beep me.”

Currently, it’s not clear whether the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot series could be shopped around elsewhere now that Hulu has passed. The reboot series was meant to center a new slayer Ryan Kiera Armstrong, who would be guided by older characters as mentor figures, including Gellar’s Buffy herself. Other Buffy characters that were meant to return in the sequel, though none were officially confirmed.

This is sad news indeed for Buffy fans, who have long waited to see more from the world. The original Buffy is absolutely one of the most influential TV series of all time. And it truly shaped a generation. We’ll have to wait and see if we eventually get a Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot, especially now that Sarah Michelle Gellar is feeling the siren song of slaying. We know Buffy would never give up, so we won’t either.

You can, ironically, stream Buffy the Vampire Slayer on the very platform that canceled its reboot, Hulu.
