The demand for one-page websites is skyrocketing thanks to the need for things like landing pages, portfolios, and small business sites. It can be daunting to dive head-first into web design if you don’t have any experience. Thankfully, you can use a website builder service like Carrd to create a one-page site in a matter of minutes.
Carrd fits a nice niche that other website design platforms such as WordPress and Wix, both of which require a certain level of expertise, have grown away from. Believe me, most of my job as a writer and editor is done in WordPress, and I’m still learning about how to use it.
Carrd keeps it as simple as possible, which is why I like it. I’ve even recommended it to a less-than-tech-savvy relative who needed a way to create an online portfolio site—and if they can figure it out, so can you.
You can use Carrd to create a one-page site in just a few minutes like I did here, poor design skills aside.

This simplicity makes Carrd ideal for beginners who have absolutely no experience with web design. To begin creating your own one-page site, create a login and then simply click on Choose a Starting Point on Carrd’s homepage. You’re then presented with a bunch of templates that you can begin working with. Alternatively, choose Blank Page instead to start from scratch.
Once you’ve chosen a template, the next screen guides you through how to add, arrange, and customize your own elements on the site. You can add things like pictures, text, links, and embed custom codes and widgets. When you’re finished designing your site, just click on Publish.
Carrd offers a free version that allows you to create up to three sites per account. A subscription to one of its Pro tiers opens up more site limits plus extra design and functionality offerings. I just use the free version, though, and it’s what I’ve recommended to others as well—there are still plenty of templates to choose from, and for basic needs it has everything you could want.
