You might remember that when the 28 Years Later trailer first struck the internet, fans felt convinced that franchise OG Cillian Murphy was one particularly emaciated zombie shown in a field of flowers. Murphy, after all, had originated the series in 28 Days Later, playing lead character Jim, and it seemed likely he could return to the sequel movie. When fans saw this particular zombie, they thought they knew what had become of Jim in 28 Years Later, he had become one of the infected zombies. But it turned out that the zombie was not Cillian Murphy OR Jim, but was actually played by a man called Angus Neill. Although known to be offline, Cillian Murphy did recently react to the zombie comparisons that buzzed around the internet for days, and he did not find it flattering.
Cillian Murphy noted that his sons had shown him the zombie from the 28 Years Later trailer and informed him that the whole internet thought it was him. “That’s great, people think I look like a zombie cadaver. It’s very flattering.” The Observer notes that he uttered this very dryly.
Okay, so when you say it like THAT, Cillian Murphy, you make a good point. But that said… kind of? You have to admit that the zombie from the 28 Years Later trailer/movie DOES look like Cillian Murphy. And even when you see him in situ in the movie, that zombie STILL looks like Cillian Murphy. It’s true that in the end that may not feel flattering to Cillian Murphy. But… it’s kind of an attractive zombie cadaver, you know?
You can now judge the zombie likeness for yourself because 28 Years Later and Cillian Murphy’s original movie 28 Days Later are now available to stream on Netflix. Make sure to wave hello to not-Cillian Murphy as you pass by.
