Trailers have been hitting it out of the park lately. We hope it’s because the movies behind them are just that good. We felt like the trailer for Jordan Peele’s HIM astounded us. And the trailer for 28 Years Later lives rent-free in our heads. But joining that pile is the trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, coming to Netflix in November. It might be that Oscar Isaac’s Doctor Victor Frankenstein’s great crime is creating life, giving breath to a monster, but in this trailer, Frankenstein stole our breath and stopped our hearts right in our chests. As Isaac’s Frankenstein says in the trailer, in seeking life, he created death at least the death of any doubts we had about this movie being anything less than stellar. (Which were few to begin with.)

There’s a lot to unpack in Guillermo del Toro’s first official Frankenstein teaser trailer. To begin with, we’d be most remiss if we did not comment on just how gorgeous the movie looks already. We know that del Toro can create a satisfying aesthetic, but boy, is Frankenstein just gorgeous. We adore how the bleak iciness of the world becomes juxtaposed to fiery reds, creating a sharp contrast and two very different visions of what monstrosity can look like. (Some say the world will end in fire, etc.)
On top of this, even from only the few minutes of del Toro’s Frankenstein trailer, we can tell the acting in this movie will be superb. Oscar Isaac’s Doctor Victor Frankenstein already brings to life an aching duality. Is he a mad monster blinded by ravenous ambition or merely a curious scientist trying to do good for humanity? This Frankenstein trailer hints that both ideas are true at once.
Meanwhile, we see only glimpses of Frankenstein’s monster, played by Jacob Elordi, but the glimpses we do see are good. When Elordi’s monster yells, “VICTOR” at the end of the Frankenstein trailer, it gives us chills. His voice is totally unrecognizable. We can’t wait to see more of this movie as soon as possible.
When Will Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein Release on Netflix?
For now, though, we don’t know exactly when Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein will arrive on our screens, but we do know it’s coming in November. That DOES narrow it down some. But hopefully, a specific release date we can count down to will arrive soon. Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein will stream on Netflix.
