DROPOUT TV Is Charging More, and We’re Happy About It Sarah Campbell | usagoldmines.com

In today’s economy, there’s nothing more annoying than streaming services bumping up their prices. And, oh boy, have we already seen a lot this year. Usually, we riot at the thought of coughing up more cash to big companies like Netflix and Disney+. But there’s one that people are practically begging to throw their money at. Dropout.tv, the popular comedy streaming service, is charging a dollar more for their monthly subscription, and subscribers are weirdly happy about.

Dropout announced the price hike back in April of this year—increasing the monthly fee from $5.99 to $6.99. What they got from it were some very unusual reactions. Instead of a nasty wave of backlash, turns out people were actually excited about the idea of spending more. If fact, they were welcoming it.

“I’m forcing you to take more of my money,” one comment read. Another: “jokes on you i WANT to pay you more.” Anndd another, “LET ME PAY MORE.”

Admittedly, it’s a little strange for people to be so adament about paying someone MORE money. I guess it goes to show just how much people are willing to spend on something they genuinely care about. Good for Dropout. Following the overwhelming response from the last video, Dropout has introduced a second subscription tier. That way, those who are oh so desperate to hand over their money, can. The decision was announced on YouTube on October 21.

What It Means to be a Dropout Superfan Subscriber

The new “Superfan” tier acts as sort of fan club for Dropout subscribers. Superfans will have access to all the same content that comes with a regular subscription, with a few added perks to sweeten the deal. That includes a behind-the-scenes blog, exclusive merch, and first dibs at live events.

Getting its footing on YouTube, Dropout is a comedy channel known for its hilarious improvisational content. As the popular channel grew, it launched a streaming service to house every bold, laughable show for fans to binge in one place. With the support of Superfans and other subscribers, Dropout will be able to pay their creators more and fund more chaotic content—including scripted and animation.

It’s nice to mention that Dropout isn’t forcing anyone to upgrade their tier plan. Becoming a Dropout Superfan is completely up to the discretion of the individual subscriber. While we may never be satisfied with the ever-increasing cost of Netflix or Disney+, this is a deal we can get behind. So pay more if you want, or don’t.
