From an outsider’s perspective, getting a recurring gig in the MCU seems like quite the catch for an actor. You get paid well to play a cool character and not leak spoilers to press. And it opens you up to attend a zillion conventions, where you make even more money to sign autographs and take pictures with people who like you a lot. If you’re lucky, you can eventually leave and come back randomly to make audiences happy. So it totally makes sense that Elizabeth Olsen, who famously portrayed Wanda Maximoff a.k.a. The Scarlet Witch, would “jump” at the chance to return to the MCU.
As we all know, the last time we saw Wanda, she was big trippin’ in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and ended up under a pile of rubble. It’s not clear if she’s dead or not, but we certainly haven’t seen Wanda in any other MCU projects, and other characters assume she’s dead. Olsen claims she has “no idea” if the Scarlet Witch is dead or not but she did spend time recently reminiscing about being in the MCU in an interview with InStyle.
She said filming was “goofy” and full of joy. We’re grown people behaving like children on a playground,” said Olsen. “We’re flying. We’re shooting things out of our hands. And it’s a character that I’ve gotten to return to so many times over 10 years. It’s good to put her down and then I miss her and I want her back. I’d jump at the opportunity to be in her shoes again.”
And, she kept it very real about the perks of being in a high-profile role in the MCU. “It’s financial security, I can make choices,” she noted. “It’s offered me value, and that’s useful when making independent movies.”
While she’s in other projects that are considered more “prestigious,” Olsen found just as much fulfillment and acting challenge portraying Wanda Maximoff in the MCU. “The soul, the spirit, the heart is fulfilled doing it. It does mean something. I care about the acting being great—everyone does.”
We love to hear that and we welcome Wanda back whenever the MCU is ready. It’s not impossible that she will show up to reunite with her son (and a ghost Agatha Harkness) soon.
