Gemini adds Claude-style Notebooks for context and organization | usagoldmines.com

In a new blog post, Google recently announced a new feature in Gemini called “Notebooks.” You can think of a Notebook as an organizational unit that keeps all related chats together (whether by topic, project, etc.) and as a place where you can upload contextual files that help Gemini better understand what you’re talking about.

For example, if you’re planning a big trip next year, you can create a Notebook for all those conversations. You can also upload files like travel documents, booking confirmations, insurance records, want-to-visit locations, restaurant lists, travel brochures, etc. These all give Gemini more context, which results in better quality responses.

You can also sync Gemini Notebooks with NotebookLM, which means you can, for example, create a visual summary in NotebookLM and then continue working with the same material in Gemini.

Notebooks is currently rolling out to paid Gemini users, but will also reach free users and mobile users in the coming weeks. You might notice that Notebooks sounds a lot like Projects in Anthropic’s Claude, except Claude Projects are fully available to free users. The eventual free rollout of Notebooks might entice a few Claude users to switch over.
