Well, well, well. The penultimate episode of Gen V season two threw us all for a loop with a twist involving Cipher and Thomas Godolkin. We called it pretty early on that the man in the hyperbaric chamber was the founder of God U. But what we didn’t quite call was Cipher not being who he said he was in such a shocking way. We discover that Cipher is actually not the one calling the shots at all, and his name isn’t even Cipher. Thomas Godolkin was controlling an innocent man’s body, forcing him to be a puppet.
In the episode, Marie and Cate head back to Cipher’s place to look for Thomas Godolkin’s body. Marie hopes to heal him so he can help with taking down Cipher. Marie accepts Polarity’s full help but still doesn’t trust Cate enough for her assistance. She also prevents her sister Annabeth as well as Jordan, Emma, and Sam from helping her, even though Annabeth believes Marie could die. Polarity goes in to confront Cipher while Marie uses her powers to detect where Thomas Godolkin is.
Despite her protests, the others come in as well, with Annabeth, Cate, and Emma going to find Marie. She finds Thomas and heals his body, which deeply drains her powers. Thomas thanks Marie profusely as the others look on, but something seems sinister about the newly healed God U founder. Meanwhile, Polarity is ready to kill Cipher, but the current God U president starts to beg for his life and seems genuinely frightened. To Polarity’s horror, he discovers that this man is actually a normal dude named Doug who was under Thomas’ control. So, Cipher does not exist in Gen V at all.
Thomas goes on the loose and kills the supe that wants to join Sam’s frat, beginning to make good on his promise to “cull the herd” of weak supes. Welp. It is not clear why or how Thomas Godolkin chose this guy and took over, but we should get answers in Gen V’s season two finale.
