This one came out of left field. For real. Everybody is waiting for alt season to start. So, here we are, sitting on our new, shiny coins projects, waiting for them to take off. However, in the meantime, a bunch of dinosaur coins are making a comeback. Cardano (ADA), Algorand ($ALGO), Hedera ($HBAR), VeChain ($VET). They’re all taking off with a 250% to 750% price increase over the last 30 days. Most notably, $XRP, though. That’s taking center stage right now. Check my video from yesterday.
Nobody saw this coming. But here we are. So, what is behind this price increase? And how many $XRP will make you a millionaire?
What Happened to $XRP?
Currently, $XRP is on every social media timeline you can think of. Instagram, TikTok, X, you name it. However, not too long ago, Raoul Pal released this video on X, warning us not to buy ‘old’ coins like Cardano and $XRP.
How things have changed. Look at this $XRP chart. That’s unreal. It’s an absolute God candle. $XRP did a 439% over the last 30 days. That’s a parabolic rise, if I ever saw one. But, the question is, how did it go from 50 cents to $2.71 in only one month? Especially if you consider it has been in this 50-cent range for the last two and a half years.
So, yes, I can see where Raoul Paul comes from. There were projects during that time that offered better returns. However, here we are.
The SEC vs Ripple
The first shake up came from Ripple’s big opponent, the SEC. They’ve been fighting each other in the ring since 2020. According to the SEC, Ripple raised $1.3 billion and did this by selling $XRP as an unregistered security.
Now, the big news is that SEC chair Gary Gensler is stepping down in January. Under President-elect Trump, a much more crypto-friendly person will likely take this position.
On January 20, 2025 I will be stepping down as @SECGov Chair.
This could not only affect Ripple positively. There’s a whole slew of other crypto projects under attack by the SEC. They could all benefit from this. Add to that a victory in court to move to final judgment more quickly to cut the nonsense and Ripple’s legal costs. That helped $XRP move too.
Nonetheless, this clears the way for Ripple to do what it intended to do from the get-go. That is to accommodate fast and low-cost international payment options. 10 This new, more clear environment also triggered more institutional interest. Another reason to be optimistic about the $XRP price.
$RLUSD and $XRP ETFs
$RLUSD is Ripple’s stablecoin. Ripple only unveiled this stablecoin in October 2024. Its competitors are, for instance, Tether’s $USDT and Circle’s $USDC.
There are rumors that the New York Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) may approve $RLUSD soon. There was even a mention by Fox News of a 4th December launch. That would be today, but that didn’t happen. Yet. A launch seems imminent, though.
The $RLUSD stablecoin pegs 1:1 to the $USD. So, this news led to another potential option for $XRP; ETFs. It’s not easy to get approval for an ETF. Let alone a crypto ETF. However, earlier this year, we saw the Bitcoin and Ethereum ETF approvals by the SEC.
With a new SEC chair, the mood, or opportunity could take a turn. 21Shares, Canary Capital, and Bitwise are among the firms that have already filed for $XRP spot ETF applications. With such an ETF, you don’t need to buy actual $XRP. Instead, you can buy shares from the funds offering it. A great opportunity for both retail and institutions.
So, normally I would give you a TA here. However, looking again at this chart, that’s not really possible. This chart and growth are too explosive to give a halfway reasonable TA.
However, having said that, here’s also a word of warning or advice. Look at the 2017 parabolic candle and how long that lasted. If history repeats itself, we’re back to zero (well, ok, 50 cents to $1) in no time. So, let’s hope that this cycle, $XRP is less volatile.
The last resistance point before mooning is the previous all-time high of $3.40 from back in January 2018. After that, we are in unknown territory.
So, here’s the question that we want an answer to. How many $XRP to become a millionaire? Well, let’s first look at the current $XRP price. That’s $2.59.
So, at the current price of $2.59 you need 386,100 $XRP.
However, what if $XRP goes to its $3.40 ATH? Now you need 294,118 $XRP.
And if we see a real push, beyond the current ATH? Let’s say to $4 and $5 respectively. That would be 250,000 and 200,000 tokens.
And lastly, if we go even higher to what I think could be the max this cycle at $10 then you would only need 100,000 tokens.
Right now, I don’t even dare to go higher! But you see, there’s plenty of opportunity. In case you missed it, $XRP flipped both Solana and $USDT over the weekend and on Monday. It finds itself back at the 3rd spot measured by market cap. However, also remember that 2017 chart, where $XRP pumped and dumped hard.
