“You ain’t gettin’ rid of me that easy.” After the way Monarch: Legacy of Monsters ended its first season, there was some concern that it spelled the end for Kurt Russell’s character, Lee Shaw. Also played in his younger days by his son, Wyatt Russell, fans feared Shaw did not survive the finale’s rather explosive events. But worry not, Monarch fandom. In a new video released today, we’ve learned that Kurt Russell does indeed return for season two of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, which is coming soon. Season one of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters followed the story of two siblings looking to uncover their family’s connection to the secretive organization simply known as Monarch. This is the mysterious group in several recent Monsterverse films featuring Godzilla and Kong. Several clues lead them into the world of monsters, and ultimately, to Army officer Lee Shaw. Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell portray Shaw in different time periods in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. Season one takes place in the 1950s, and also half a century later, where Lee Shaw’s knowledge threatens Monarch.
How big will Kurt Russell’s role be in season two of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters? Well, we still don’t really know. But if you get a screen icon like Kurt Russell back, you wouldn’t want to waste his talent. But we’re glad to see more of him, in any event. We still don’t have a release date for season two. The first season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters debuted in 2023 and was renewed for its second season in 2024.
