As a filthy nerd who’s written thousands of articles from the solitude of my home office, I don’t really have to worry about how loud my PC accessories are. But at least in concept, I can respect the idea of choosing your mouse with an eye (or ear) to your coworkers. Such is the case with Logitech’s new MX Ergo S and M575S trackballs, which get the same quiet-click upgrades as other S variants.

These designs are almost identical to the MX Ergo and M575 trackballs that have been on the market for years, just, you know, quieter. The MX Ergo S comes with a big, removable base that lets you tilt the whole thing up 20 degrees. That’s not as dramatic as the MX Vertical, but for a device specifically intended to offer wrist relief, it’s a nice touch. You get six buttons—one thumb, two extra adjustment buttons next to the primary click, and one button for switching between USB and Bluetooth devices—plus a 2048 DPI laser for the thumb-positioned trackball and horizontal scrolling for the wheel.

The M575S is a more budget-oriented option, keeping essentially the same layout but dropping the thumb button and multi-pair options. In lieu of a rechargeable battery, it uses a single AA battery that should last for over a year, and it can pair via Bluetooth or use the USB wireless receiver. It doesn’t get the adjustable base, but it comes in a lot more color options for the body and ball—the MX device comes in any color you want, so long as you want graphite gray.

Both devices get much quieter primary click buttons, like the MX Master 3S, Anywhere 3S, etc. The M575S stays the same price at $50, but the MX Ergo S gets bumped up to a hefty $120. That’s the same price bump as other high-end Logitech devices, probably spurred on by import tariffs/taxes in the United States. I hope the government bought something nice with your extra twenty bucks.
