It Follows is a fantastic horror film. In fact, we think that it has one of the best opening scenes in a horror movie of all-time. The ending begged for more story, even though we’d be fine without a follow up. And, in 2023, we learned that a sequel was coming, but no other information is out there two years later… at least, until now. During an October 2025 interview, Maika Monroe said the script is written and exceptional and there are hopes to start filming the It Follows sequel in 2026.
“I’m hoping—rumors are of next year,” Monroe told Decider. “I don’t need to get into a bunch of scheduling and stuff, but we’ve all been busy. But this script is so good. I absolutely think this movie should get made, because I think fans will be really happy. I think it’s exceptional. We’ll see. Fingers crossed!”
Writer/director David Robert Mitchell is back to pen the script once again. In the original film, Monroe portrayed Jay, who unfortunately had this entity latch onto her after she had sex for the first time. Thankfully, she lived to the end. However, there’s a figure walking behind her and Paul. So we will have to see how the It Follows sequel expands their story. We hope that the script for the It Follows sequel is indeed exceptional and that filming starts in 2026.
