I had to look back in the old Nerdist archives to be sure, but it was over four full years ago (September 9, 2021 to be exact) that we first got the announcement trailer for Insomniac Games’ Wolverine. Video games take a long time to come out, as well you all know. But Insomniac’s Spider-Man 2 has already been out for over two years and we’re itching for the developer’s next Marvel project. During today’s PlayStation State of Play, we finally got a full look at Marvel’s Wolverine and it’s…boy, it sure is bloody.
The gameplay trailer showcases just how violent the game will be, with a similar pace to the action of the Spider-Man games but much closer, more immediate and visceral. We also seem to get the same level of playable set-pieces as the earlier games. Wolverine jumps off imploding skyscrapers and atop moving vehicles with ease, which is exactly what we want. Additionally, we’re getting what looks like a slightly modified version of the yellow Deadpool & Wolverine costume.
Both Omega Red and Mystique make appearances, as does a massive, mutant-hunting Sentinel there at the end. Whether we get many more X-Men cameos, or if it’ll be pure Wolverine comics stuff, will probably come later. But, according to the accompanying behind-the-scenes featurette, we definitely will get more comics stuff if you know what to look for.
Assaying the role of James “Logan” Howlett for Marvel’s Wolverine is Spartacus actor Liam McIntyre. He seems pleased as punch to take on the iconic mutant. It’s a large responsibility, but he certainly has the voice down.
The synopsis for Marvel’s Wolverine is as follows:
“Become a living weapon. As he searches for answers about his past, Wolverine will do whatever it takes – unleashing brutal claw combat, violent rage, and relentless determination – to cut through the mystery of the man he used to be.”

I for one will be the first in line for this game. Do people still wait in line for anything? Well, I’ll find a line and then wait in it. For a whole year. Oh yeah, Marvel’s Wolverine is coming to PS5 Fall of 2026. Dammit, bub.
