Microsoft wants to make the search function in the Windows 11 Start menu more predictable and accurate. Windows Latest reports that Microsoft’s design lead, Diego Baca, has confirmed that the company is aware of several recurring issues experienced by users.
Many users currently call up the Start menu by pressing the Windows key and then start typing straight away to find apps and files. However, the search feature is returning incorrect suggestions, taking its time to display results, and mixing in irrelevant web searches or documents when users really just want to, say, launch a specific app.
As a result, improving performance and predictability in the Start menu is something Microsoft is actively working on. The aim is to make searching both faster and more consistent for users.
At the same time, Microsoft is developing a broader update to the Windows search experience, where the same logic will apply regardless of whether the user searches via the Start menu, File Explorer, or Settings. Several of the changes are already being tested internally, but it’s unclear when they will be rolled out to users.
