Scientists now believe that by the year 2083, roughly 80% of all movies will feature the Minions. Personally I think that prediction is far too timid. Not when those adorable little yellow creatures are already at the “monsters” phase of their franchise after just six movies. But those other film series are often giving up by the time they get o this point. That’s clearly not the case with Minions & Monsters. The film will feature a star-studded lineup of Oscar winners and nominees.
Illumination and Universal Pictures shared a fun little cast announcement video that is the rare case of something awesome also qualifying as a total Dick move. That’s because it stars Minion Dick being very disappointed by having to hear the very awesome lineup of stars who will join him in his next film. It will feature Academy Award winners Allison Janney, Christoph Waltz, and Jeff Bridges. Also joining them are Jesse Eisenberg, Zoey Deutch, Trey Parker, Bobby Moynihan, and Phil LaMarr.
Not bad. NOT BAD AT ALL.
As for the actual film, it’ll tell the story of how these yellow icons conquered the industry. Here’s the film’s official synopsis:
This is the rambunctious, ridiculous and totally true story of how the Minions conquered Hollywood, became movie stars, lost everything, unleashed monsters onto the world and then banded together to try and save the planet from the mayhem they had just created.
The film comes from franchise stalwart Pierre Coffin. He also directed all three Despicable Me movies and the first Minions film. He also voices the Minions. Minions screenwriter Brian Lynch penned the script.
Will anyone in the cast or crew earn an Oscar for this entry? The Minions quest to conquer the Academy Awards with its Oscar-filled cast will begin when Minions & Monsters comes to theaters this summer on July 1.
