Since the days of Nintendo 64 and the gargantuan hit of Goldeneye, James Bond video games had been a staple of video game generations. I never had an N64, but I had Agent Under Fire, Nightfire, and Everything Or Nothing on the PlayStation 2. I sunk dozens of hours into each of those. But while the late-90s and early Aughts had Bond games to spare, the last 13 years have been incredibly sparse. That’s why the announcement at Sony’s State of Play event yesterday has me so very excited. Not only are we finally getting a new Bond game, it’s from IOI, the studio behind the Hitman series. This game looks to be in a similar vein to the recent Hitman games. Third-person missions with many different ways to complete. We get a story that appears to reset the table of Bond’s early days, a brand new Double-O agent who has to prove himself. Exotic locations, cool gadgetry, characters like Q and M, and of course cars! This is great news for me, someone who has only just recently discovered the joys of the Hitman games. The Bond films always have a fair amount of humor, and those games are quite tongue in cheek. A great merging.

We can’t wait for players and fans to discover an experience tailor-made for them.”
Another fun thing is the face model for Bond is a direct representation of Ian Fleming’s original description for the character. Facial scar and everything. Sure, he doesn’t look like Daniel Craig or Sean Connery, but they don’t look like the guy in the books. I’m sold. Definitely excited to check out 007 First Light. IOI promises a gameplay trailer later this summer, with the game releasing in 2026.
